what makes a .44 go off when you drop it? I think I am missing something. Besides that, only thing she could have done better is bring a lever gun to a mouse fight.

As a guy though, the scariest thing was "it grazed his groin". Whoa - that would make one soil his shorts pretty darn quick!!!

ALWAYS leave an empty chamber under the hammer of a single action revolver as a blow to the hammer WILL discharge the round. Unless you have a modern transfer-bar safety style.....but it's still good practice. Load one, skip one, load four. Thanks Yance.

I was "assuming" that it was not a single action .44mag, but most modern single actions have transfer bars (freedom arms do not on the two I have) and most double actions won't go off with a blow to the hammer. No old single actions weren't chambered for .44mag until Ruger came along. (I think that is a true statement) I was just pondering out loud to the veracity of the incident as described. I'll shut up now and allow those more knowledgable to educate me. (I load my freedom arms and my Colt single actions as you describe)

Hey it happens...

We were in deer camp in a buddy's log cabin and we were plauged by field mice. In response we loaded up a batch of wax loads and has sport shooting the mice as they scurried across the floor and up the walls. If you are expection a wax load and you have slipped a full B/P 45 Colt round in by mistake, the surprise is tremendous! The moral is hide the real bullets when you dig out the wax loads. Didn't do the wood stove a whole lot of good but the mouse WAS dead.

Yep, I call BS too.

BUT it sure could be an old model Blackhawk in .44 Mag, and I think you're right about the Rugers being the only .44 SAs
