What is it with gunbroker dealer feedback???

Post by coyote nose »

I don't get it. I have about a 20% success rate getting dealers to list feedback for me on gunbroker. I pay immediately, they experience NO problems with me, thank me profusely in a return email after the sale, I leave A+ feedback for them.....but I get feedback posted literally about 20% of the time. On ebay I have no such problems, but not gunbroker. If i send an email asking them to post feedback if they are satisfied with the transaction i still wont get results. The reason it becomes important to me is that I have been on gb for about 5 years or so, and only have 3 feedbacks!!!! This after maybe 15-20 transactions. I still say, feedback should be MANDATORY on both ebay and gb, with the seller having to list it first. Since they have BOTH the money I sent and the item I bought at the same time, the buyer is taking the bigger risk on these auctions.

Good point, I have only had a couple that did not give feedback but those were ones who were kind of flakey( did not find this out until the deal was made, but everything worked out ok). :x

Buy from non-dealers or smaller dealers and you will get the feedback.

I wouldn't be too concerned unless you don't have much feedback yet. I've got 40 something and don't worry about it any longer. But I it is good ediquette to post feedback promptly, and I do understand your exasperation.

If I see 10 positive feedbacks on a buyer, I feel fine - even 5 is better than the guy with nothing... which makes me a little nervous - but you can't control who wins the auction. If it's a noob, I just over communicate. :)

For sellers, I ditto - I like to see some transactions and history - but if a new seller, I just look everything over closely and ask a lot of questions.

Ditto the small dealers or individuals...It kinda gripes me that I hold up my end of the deals..Money sent ASAP...I got a neg feedback because I returned a firearm (it was in less than advertised condition) I sent it back the same day I got it..well within the allowed 3 day inspection.. Cost me 70 bucks to look at the rifle for 30 min ..And on top of that got a Neg feedback! Put that neg feedback in with 4 other thing feedbacks & it looks like I'm a flake..

I've only had one leave feedback out of 8 or 9 transactions on GB. They have all been good, smooth deals too. I think people are just too lazy to mess with it.

When I say I have dealt with dealers, I mean both big and small and private...from the guy selling a few cast bullets to a big time dealer. Does not matter, few take the time to leave feedback on gunbroker. It is just different on ebay, maybe 80% leave feedback there.
MY policy on ebay (I buy and sell there): If I am the seller I leave feedback as soon as I get the money. I mean the same day I get a money order or the same day the check clears. If I am the buyer i leave feedback ONLY after the seller leaves it for me.

I just never worried about feedback. I'm not interested in becoming a full time on line dealer and I don't collect atta boys. If someone leaves feedback well OK and if not who cares, it won't make any difference to me the next time I buy a box of bullets. Personaly I leave feedback if everything is up to snuff and If I get shoddy treatment I ignore the fellow and never buy from him again. Maybe I'm just an old fellow who isn't prepared for life on line, but I don't leave feedback every time I buy a sack of groceries either.

Sometimes on eBay I tell buyers/sellers that I will leave feedback when they do. Would that work on GB?

KCSO, at the grocery store the transaction is immediate and I have recourse if something is wrong. My hunch is that actually you and I DO leave a form of feedback at the grocery store. If they really tick me off a complaint may be stated at the checkout. If the service was great I'd be polite and say thank you, etc at the checkout line. On gunbroker, I am often limited because of low feedback. For example, I have had people tell me they wont take checks because I have dont have enough feedbacks. Also, if I recall correctly, I had to have a credit card onfile at GB if I wanted to use buy it now (or was it make offer...it was awhile ago and I cant exactly remember), because I had only 2 feedbacks posted at the time I tried to use that option. So the atta boys actually wind up mattering. I know when I sell on ebay I state no checks, money order only. The reality is that after the auction is over I email the winner and if they have good feedback i tell them I will accept a check off of them. Pharmseller, that would work only if the seller leaves it first. As a seller, why should my feedback on the buyer matter what he writes about me since I have his money AND his item, and he paid for the shipping and if it is faulty he will have to pay it again to ship it back! Especially if it was a perfect transaction. I should leave it immediately.
