Levergun Hog - Eatin' update

Post by cnjarvis »

Some of you will likely remember my post around a month ago about a hog I took with my lever. http://www.levergunscommunity.com/viewt ... hog#p95787

I finally got it back from the processor and grilled some loin steaks last night. kimwcook had asked how feral hogs taste so here's the report - just like domestic as near as I can tell. No "gamey" taste whatsoever. Now all I have to do is go get a few more...

Thanks cnjarvis, for the follow up report. I've often wondered, given I don't have the oppurtunity in Washington State to hunt feral hogs. I would suspect, like most animals, it depends on their diet as to what the end results going to be.

That is correct.

I've tasted them when they're "gamey" too.

Even the somewhat liberal mag "Texas Monthly" had a column a few years ago wherein the culinary writer stated that the taste was better than any domestic swine could be. I tend to agree.
