It has been a good independence Day, we had some friends from church come to be with us and my grandson cleaned and primed 600 .38 brass and loaded 150 rounds. We all thanked the Lord for our country and ate real good. Hope ya'll had a good one too.

Well, I went to the range this AM and levered off a few .45-70, a few .357s, then went over to the trap range and shot some .410s out of a 100+ y/o damascus 16ga. Actually patterns pretty well at 25yds using the chamber mates.

Then this evening while the neighbors were shooting off tiny fragments of powder wrapped in paper, I used 100gr of BP in each barrel to launched a burning steel wool ball and a burning copper wool ball from my C&B 72cal Howda.

Not nearly impressive enough. I'm going to have to work up a better 4th load that is louder and has the flaming ball(s) hold together better.

A summer thunderstorm was trying it's best to start up just around the time the big "sky show 2008" started over Knights stadium south of Charlotte. No rain (which we need - REALLY bad) but "heat lightning" flashes. Really made for a great backdrop to the fireworks show!!!
