Uberti 1873 Short Stroke Problems

Post by Sonny Thunder »

Pleasure to be a part of the group!

I'm in the process of installing a short stroke in my Uberti 1873...I'm having a heck of a time getting the thing to cock. Seems the bolt just aint coming back far enough to cock the hammer. It's close...really close but not enough to cock the hammer.

Here's what I got so far

Pioneer Gunworks Super Stroke Kit
A Pair of Whisper Springs

Still Comin':

Light Duty Main and Lever Safety Springs
Grabber Site

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I would start by giving Joe a call and see if he can sort it out for you. :)

Ditto. Welcome to the forum. I'd be interested in seein' pics of the various parts... I ain't ever seen the inner workings of a short stroke kit, or the Whisper springs.

Question?
Have you made the adjustments to the carrier lifter so the bolt will retact fully without the cart. hitting the bottom of the bolt as they come up. the interface between the lever and lifter has to be fitted and the 44/45 guns require more fitting than the 357m guns.If you will do this adjustment first it will allow the lever to move a bit more forward possibly enough to cock the hammer. If this doesn't work you will need to lower the trigger nose just slightly to the hammer will cock sooner. I have had to do this on maybe 2 or 3 of these in order to make them cock with the SS kits.

On a side note. the picture there on Joes Elves Pioneer gun works website is of my guns.

He borrowed it for his website. I have the same pic here on my services page. http://stevesgunz.com/ServiceSG.htm

Yup...that worked! I spent a little more time fitting and polishing the carrier and it's running great. The Smith Shop, light duty main spring and lever safety spring came in the mail ... installed those and she's running real nice now. The Grabber site and lever wrap should be here today.

Thanks for your help

Guess there's some of us out there who like to tinker with and customize their guns...for competition or just the fun of it.
