I took the family to Mass yesterday evening. It was a nice service. A wedding had ended shortly before Mass started. During the service a child was baptized, and a couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary was honored. It was the priest’s 28th anniversary of his ordination was well – so just a special day all the way around.
We were driving back home and I was commenting on how the Mass covered all three “highlights” for a couple – their wedding (earlier in the day), a baptism and a big anniversary after a long, happy life together. Just then the song “Silly Little Love Songs” but Paul McCartney (during his days with “Wings”) came on. Just seemed like fate – the most important “things” in my life – my wife and children – were with me in the car. I was looking into my beautiful wife’s eyes just feeling blessed by God, and all was right in the world.
I could tell she was feeling the same. I reached over to touch her hand, extending two fingers to wrap around hers – our own little way we say “I Love You” whenever we can. Just then, out of the “peanut gallery” behind us my 6-year daughter old chimes in…
“Mom, PLEASE don’t pull Daddy’s finger!”
So much for romance!
