Sad day...

Post by GunnyMack »

As many of you know I am a Labrador Nut!
My chocolate, Claro developed carcinoma last fall. The vet said probably 6 months. We'll she made 7. She was a fighter.
This morning she was acting strangely, I passed it off as her eyes had gotten very cloudy of late.
Claro was a pup from my first litter, she took her first breath in my hands, I was the first and last thing she smelled.
This afternoon she seemed fine but then she started falling down. I tried to get her outside and she had a seizure for about 3 minute. Off to the emergency clinic where I made the hardest decision we pet owners have to make.
She has been my right hand from her first breath.
To say I'm devastated doesn't even come close.
Parker and Sage are terribly confused.

Sorry for your loss Gunny.

I'm not sure I want to go through it again. I do know Mrs. YK and I are going to take a pause when Remi passes to travel. I also can't imagine being without a dog and cat, so it will probably be a short pause.

Gunny,
Your decision brought tears to my eyes, as it probably did to anyone who has had to make that difficult decision. Mine was a golden lab.
Sorry for your loss, but be thankful for those memories that made Claro special.

It's a horrible day in a dog lover's life, Will, as others have said. Thank gosh you have Parker and Sage to ease the sadness.
There is such irony in the fact that the process is painless, and our dogs are blessed not to fear what comes next, while we humans tend to be basket cases under the circumstances.

So so sorry to hear about your loss. It tears a hole right through you.
I'm right there myself. My 8 year old Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, Elo, died on Monday due to complications from Lyme despite a lifetime of careful tick prevention. He was my constant companion. Came to work with me every day, went sailing with me, I couldn't begin to guess the number miles we hiked looking for partridge or just enjoying the woods and he loved to lay on the couch next to me at night while I read with his head on my thigh. I lost an essential part of myself when I lost him.

My deepest condolences to you Eric!
My very first dog of my own was also a Lyme victim, of course that was back in the late 80s when no one knew anything about it.

As tough as it was, you did the right thing. I have had dogs which were too old and sick to live that way. The kindness of allowing them to pass on comfortably is the right thing to do.

I am very sorry for the loss of your Lab, Gunny. We are owned by a little female orange Lab who has been our constant companion, going on six years now. They are very intelligent dogs, eager to please and full of love for their people. The best you can do is make sure they get the full measure in return, every day of their lives and it's quite obvious you've done that. Take comfort in that and treasure the memories.

There are little kids in Heaven, so there has to be good dogs there.
