Bearcat chronograph results

Post by Scott Tschirhart »

Jim, here are the readings each cylinder was shot in the same order per chamber so we can see if there are any fast or slow chambers.

That group was at 10 yards with the Super X load. Might shave that front sight just a bit after I shoot it more.

Mine (still .22 LR) hits about POA at 25 - 30 feet but a bit to the left. Not enough to worry about. I cut the front sight to where it is.

Mine is perfect now for cutting prickly pear apples off the plant at normal ranges. But I’m reluctant to take a file to it until I shoot it a lot more.

But the gun cycles correctly now and it doesn’t look
Like I have any fast or slow chambers.

I straightened the trigger some on mine and cut the trigger guard to a "Half Fitz" to get my finger into the guard easier.

I recall that the stainless Bearcats originally came out as convertibles, but then Ruger issued a recall on the magnum cylinders, claiming a timing issue. They never reissued the guns with WMR cylinders after that. It doesn't pass the smell test for me. Anyone know the actual reason for discontinuing the factory magnum Bearcats?

I purchased this gun from a man who sent it to Single Action Service and had the 3" barrel put on. I assume they also put the grips on too. It has a nice trigger and is a great grouse gun......Joe

I was tempted to build a Fitz out of a 2" Smith model 64, but in the end, I just bobbed the hammer and did that "Half Fitz" treatment to the trigger guard, like you did on this pistol. It does help.

There shouldn’t be a timing issue as the hand isn’t anywhere close to the.22 Magnum rims.

Perhaps they had the same issue that I did?
