I suppose one of the advantages of growing up in the fifties and sixties is that we were outside a lot. We learned all sorts of stuff by doing it. I know I taught my kids (the USMC added a bit more knowledge) the outside stuff.

The bushcraftusa forum has quite a lot of good information on it, of all types, primitive to modern in methods and materials, and a lot of good general outdoors and traditional crafts and tools info.
