Back to the .480 Ruger experiments matching up the double rifle to the Ruger Super Blackhawk
Trying to get a load that shoots around 950 FPS with a 380-400 grain cast bullet in the revolver but which will regulate reasonably in the double rifle.
Shot in the freezing rain this morning but 14.5 gr of HS 6 is getting pretty close.
Using a Bear Creek 380 grain RNFP I’m clocking right at 1100 FPS.
Double rifle clocks right at 1290 fps and stacks the bullets up at 25 yards.

That load should stop just about anything! Sounds like a winner.

It’s a little more recoil than I want in the revolver. But it’s not too punishing. It was too chilly and windy to do more than just cursory testing. But I do think that HS6 may get me there. Pressure seems mild.
The velocity figures between the right and left barrel are remarkably similar.

Scott have you tried those bullets over Longshot? I need to chronograph the load, but Longshot and the 385gr HP from the MP mould is proving to be quite accurate and not as peppy as my HS6 loads.

Scott, I use 10.0 Grains. Sent you a message to that effect as well so it doesn't get buried.

Thanks Dave. I’ll try it.
It looks like tomorrow will be a good day to work in my reloading room.

10 gr of Longshot got me the velocity I wanted in the revolver.
But in the rifle the right barrel shot to the left and the left barrel shot to the right at 25 yards.

I may just increase the powder charge and see if they converge.

Very cool Scott, I’m sure there’s a post about it, but what are the deet’s on that double? That one you had built?
