I'm hunkered down here at home... and trying to parcel out my snacks... snuck out to the VA doc on Thursday to deal with an ear infection and then the grocery store... what a crowd... you'd of thought everyone was trying to lay in supplies! Stay warm Jim. I forgot to get anti-gel in my various diesel vehicle's fuel tanks. So... I'm guessing I ain't going anywhere until it warms up a bit!

Our daughter in Oklahoma City said a while ago that it's still snowing and that the wind chill factor was minus ten degrees.

Have a brother there in Oklahoma City, and he did not say was still snowing, but said is really cold.
From what I see in the stores, folks are hitting there like they do here in Mobile, AL when the hurricanes are coming

It's the same here in the N.E., panic is an understatement!
Our forecast is now 6-12" of snow, maybe.03" of ice. Just yesterday we were supposed to get 12-22" of snow.
Was 1.5° this morning.
Last Thursday I put a new drive belt on my Polaris Ranger so I can plow snow. Went out and got 25gallons of gas to have for generator.
Fired up my generator earlier, I need to get a new battery, very weak.
Picked up dog food yesterday.
We are ready.

We got ready by Thursday. Made sure the generator was running ok, fueled it and got extra fuel. Plenty of propane for the emergency heat if we need it. I bought some antifreeze (Angels Envy bourbon) and made a big batch of chili that is still feeding us. Though sad to report, the cornbread just ran out.

We're just in the western edge of it. Gray, drizzly and 40-ish outside - enough to make me cancel today's range trip. I'm thinking loaded baked potatoes with taco meat for dinner, going foraging for snacks in a bit.

Everyone stay safe.

Since folks always lke to complain about California and Californians, here's my plan for today and my weather report.

Well, we had just enough rain to leave spots on my Tacoma. So it's time to wash and wash the truck.
It 72*F. Slight breeze. Just a few fluffy white clouds.

Go ahead hate us even more. But do you folks realize that if more of you chose the sunshine over the snow and ice this could be a conservative state?

We are hovering around 13 degrees here in my neck of the woods. So far, we have got 2.5" to 3" and tonight we are forecasted to get that much or more.
I am dreading the zero lows coming. My cows are doing good though, even though they are coated in ice. We have a friend that lost a cow last night. That's
a big hit to the pocketbook!
The wife has a crockpot full of pinto beans going. Maybe I can talk her into making a skillet full of cornbread to go with it!

Stay warm,

Just remember Jim, corn bread r² and pie r round

Corn bread and honey are a favorite here too but I make it to go with Dave's Gastronomic Bean Delight. A recipe of a college buddy.
6 cans of different beans
1# ground beef or venison
1/4 lbs bacon, cut to pieces
1/2 cup BBQ sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
Green seasoning of your choice ( savory is my favorite)
2Tbs of lemon juice

Cook bacon, ground beef
Add to big pot with beans- do not drain.
Add BBQ sauce, seasoning and lemon juice.
Simmer at least 1 hour.

WARNING
Do not use dry beans, takes too long to cook and the opening scene from Blazing Saddles will ensue!

Here 90 miles North of the West Texas City of El Paso, it's been raining since yesterday, we don't often get free water, so despite cancelling my 38-40 test it is a blessing. Looks like 1-3" of the white fluffy stuff tonight and temps in the mid teens come Sunday night, a bit brisk for this neck of the woods, seems the bill for 70 degrees on Christmas has come due. All told we can really use the water, and it's a good excuse to watch a couple of Westerns, watched Winchester '73 last night and Hombre this afternoon.

Waxahachie is barely above 20°F right now. Light snow coming down, and ice is covering the ground. The pellet stove is working fine. Got a pot of "White chili" going. It is PillHer's favorite. Yes, I know chicken, jalapeños, white beans, and chicken broth thickened with a roux is not real chili. It is delicious, so we have it once a month or more. I had some serious dental work on Wednesday, and must eat soft foods for about a week or more. Chili is soft. We had beans and rice last night.

Take care and be safe, Jim! We just had salmon and baked potatoes. We got ready long before the storm arrived. But, I'm one of those old survivalist dudes. I've always got stuff ready.

It's 10 below on the thermometer here. Minus 20 with the wind. It's still suppoosed to drop some. Supposed to get around a foot of snow I think.
Just winter around here.

We are looking for 12-14" of snow today. so far not much wind. not supposed to get much above 20* all week. I'd rather have snow than ice, we have had some ice storms that left the roads looking like a war zone with downed trees and limbs, then you can bet the power will be out. Stay safe Guys.

Snow and near Zero at night but no ice. And that is just fine with me. No wind yesterday and the sun was shining! I don't think it got above 20 but it looked nice. I will head back to Texas when the roads are clear later in the week, the good Lord willing.

My younger brother is in Noble, Oklahoma and called to say the high there was 10 degrees yesterday, and low was below zero. He has lots of snow, and the snow stopped his solar charged gate operator to quit charging, so they can't get their gate open. Said he was going to take the battery out and bring it in the house to warm it up and charge it so they could open their gate.

Lots of snow yesterday and cold! That didn't stop the grandkids from going outside to play, though. This morning the official low was -5.
Wednesday and Thursday are supposed to be in the high 30s, but this stuff isn't going anywhere for a while. The chickens don't even want to come out of the coop, and I don't blame them!

Thanks Scott! It was 3 here this morning but has warmed up to 6 now. I don't think that it's going to get out of the low teens today. But I am snug and warm and all is well. I may just stick my pistol out the door and fire a few shots just because.😁

I just finished round 2 of plowing.
I tried to get the majority plowed while it was still snowing before the ice fell.
The darn sleet we got on top of the snow was a real bear to push off! I had to drive over it as much as possible to break it up, then it moved easier.
Burned about 6 gallons of gas in the Ranger.
My driveway and 11 neighbors are plowed and can go about their lives.
Then I got my snow blower out to cut p@&p trails for the dogs. Of course that ran out of gas, last year's gas- and I had to carry a gas can through 10 or 12" of snow to fill it up.

Just in from clearing the drive and sitting down with a cup of coffee. We received about 6" of dry powdery snow but thankfully no ice or sleet. Official low temp this morning was -8. More than cold enough for me.

We ended up with about a foot and a half of light fluff. It was about 15 below yesterday, and didn't get over 10 above today. Ran the blower for about 4 hours today. Still snowing, but it's supposed to taper off.

I've been fighting an ear infection for about the past 10 days. This morning I woke up to find blood stains on my pillow. Took about two hours in the 20º weather to get into my truck. Electric door locks worked, but the doors wouldn't open. Once I got in, luckily, the diesel fuel wasn't gelled, it never missed a beat. The low last nite was reported to be 9ºF, well into gel area, and it wasn't much over that for the past 3 nites, supposed to be 10º tonite. VA clinics and hospitals were closed, and was advised to go to the local ER. Roads into town were still snow covered and by the time I got done at the ER, & picked up more anti-biotics at the pharmacy, the roads were much better. Although traffic was easily less than 20% of normal, the travel lanes were well slushed up, but there were still plenty of slick spots. As I headed home on the state highway I watched a p/u going the opposite direction lose control and slide across the road and end up in the bar ditch. Clearly going a bit fast for conditions. I'd much rather have snow than ice. Kinda funny as trying to get into the truck I'd tried all 4 doors... I had to stop 3 times to close the 3 as the interior warmed up and doors popped open enough to trigger the alarm. Be safe Jim, and watch out for the idiots that think 4WD means you can drive like the roads were dry.

We ended up with a foot of powder, 6* now and all the schools are closed and most likely tomorrow as well. At the end of My road is 19 acres of woods . The Amish moved in a sawmill last week and yesterday a team of Horses . I don't know how they stand the cold but they are some tough people.

Meanwhile I had to crawl under my for and replace a leaky gasoline fill line on my Ford. Absolutely terrible what with all the sunshine getting in my eyes. And of course the concrete was a frigid 70 or so degrees.
