Seems to happen a lot as I grow old. I remember as a kid in the '50s and '60s when everyone's dad was a World War II vet. It never occurred to any of us in those years that they would mostly be gone in our lifetimes.
Sometimes we Yanks snicker at all the British Royals pomp and circumstance being carried on at considerable burden to the taxpayer, but when it comes to execution and horsemanship, the King's Household Cavalry knows a bloody thing or two about honoring elderly veterans, says this Yank.

Wow that is cool. I get blurred-vision now with things like that, too. Must be an old-guy phenomenon.

Too many of the purple-hairs born lately in the US have NO CLUE about sacrifice, or even about accountabilty or responsibility. They are 'triggered' by words, if those words express ideas they are 'uncomfortable' with - like freedom, objectivity, logic, [real-not-made-up] science, or capitalism.

The very things several generations gave their lives for so the spoiled young fools could play on 'social media' and complain about life not being 'fair' (and their solution is the most unfair thing of all - socialism).

That makes me teary-eyed for whole different reason - seeing the potential for our nation to go down the tubes and become as bad or worse than Venezuela.

I hate to say this but that's fake! Show me a man that age that can bend forward at the ankles.
However I do get blurry eyed seeing vets- of all ages.
There was a movie, I think it was called Taking Chance, about a fallen hero being returned to his hometown. Man oh man talk about water works- that movie tore me up!

Yes, yes, yes -- that is an awesome movie! It was really VERY WELL done -- I think it's a must-see for anyone who is a vet, knows vets, or wants to see the different ways the deceased vet is handled. It was a very moving story.

World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the rest of them. The veterans are disappearing faster than we would like. Last month, a Second Lieutenant from Vietnam was buried in the National Cemetery near Tucson, AZ, with no family or known friends to attend his funeral. The AZ Special Forces Chapter was asked to attend, and several of us did. Along with about 300 other people who heard about it. His landlord had contacted the VA and asked what he should do that resulted in the funeral.
It is a soft spot for me, having been a pallbearer for associates, friends, and relatives (or missed their funerals due to deployment), KIA over the years, and others who were in units they wrote books on. One, Special Forces, MACV, DELTA, after his funeral on Smoke Bomb Hill, we scattered his ashes on DZ Sicily with family and friends I had not seen in 20 years.
Yes, choked up again.
