Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
I've not handled or shot a Vaquero I'm leaning Blackhawk!
BROWN LABS MATTER !!
Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
I've had a half dozen Blackhawks but only one Vaquero, prefer the adjustable sights purely because I like to tinker with loads.
I would like a New Vaquero (or Uberti) in 45 since I've got an unused Threepersons holster for a SAA.

Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
My Vaquero is a 5 1/2” -44 , had a 6 1/2” Blackhawk , but liked the Vaquero better.
Would like a birdshead , in 357 . Someday .

Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
I had a very early production 4.625" Vaquero in .45 many years ago. It was a fime revolver, but it's long gone. I still have a few Blackhawks around. One of which, I had long before the Vaquero.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.
Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
At last count I have 15 Blackhawks and Super Blackhawks and one very fine New Vaquero in .45 Colt with a 4 5/8" barrel. I love 'em all but the unevenness of numbers tells a story.

Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
Can I vote for the Super Blackhawk?
I have handled the Vaquero, but never shot one. I have shot various Blackhawks quite a bit. I can't image the former being even better than the latter.

In my case Blackhawk ---
adjustable sights for the win ---- howeveer - i dont actually put a teeny screwdrive to my adjustable sight revolvers that much ------ although i like the idea, i jst dont practice i much - i figure out the kentucky windage and go with it
A Smith fixed sight 65 i have had for about a year --- a bit up and right , but very consistent -- so m thoughts were - thats an exemplary revolver , i'll figure it out

4 Blackhawk or Super BH no Vaqueros
a Pennsylvanian who has been accused of clinging to my religion and my guns......Good assessment skills.
Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
Both! I have a pair of original Vaqueros and my dad’s Blackhawk. The Blackhawk with its adjustable sights is easier to accommodate different loads of various weights and power levels. The Vaquero is a little sleeker looking with it’s fixed sights and probably best used with one load that shoots to the sights (or sight filed to a desired load)

I guess it depends on what you plan to do with it.
I've had two blackhawks. a 41 mag and a 45 colt bisley. VERY solid guns.

Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
I was just thinking about this yesterday! I was shooting a 44 Bisley Vaquero and thinking I can't see the sights at all, and wishing I had never sold my 4 5/8 45 Blackhawk.
I can't replace it for the 135.00 I paid for the Blackhawk new either.

Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
I fixed the sight issue on the Vaquero by having the sights modified, flat-faced front sight and opened up the rear sight notch. Copied the width dimensions for both from the Novak's on my 1911. Mill/sight work was by Jake at Accuracy Speaks back when I lived in Mesa.
If I was to do it today I'd use the dovetail front sight from Tyler or Ronnie Wells.

Currently shooting Blackhawk & Super Blackhawk, but
I want to try out a Bisley Vaquero before I vote.

Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
When I find a bargain, I buy it. That being said, I added Bowen replacement rear sights to my 5 1/2" SBH and .32mag Single Six and Rough Country sight to my 7 1/2" SBH. The Rough Country was a bargain from eBay.

Mine is a "sorta" answer... Blackhawk, but not the new model... 3-screw only.

Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
.
I've got both (well, only one Vaquero and 'several' Blackhawks).
I MOST prefer that whatever it is, it needs a 'Bisley' grip.
However aside from that, I think if I want precision shooting or maximum power loads, I'd opt for the Blackhawk. If I want durable sights and moderate loads then I'd go with the Vaquero, as in for a fast-shooting self-defense gun.
I have 'old eyes' and so tend to replace the rear blade on Blackhawks with the 'ghost ring' blades, which to me is even more important that whether or not the sight is 'adjustable'.
So for hunting or target shooting, or if I need 'bear loads', give me a Blackhawk.
And for a self-defense application against two-legs or other varmints, give me a Vaquero.

Re: Poll…Vaquero or Blackhawk
Assuming factory sights, and that I need to hit with some amount of precision, Blackhawk. A Vaquero could certainly be fun to own, and it is possible to file the front sight to hit predictably with at least one load, but, my eyes would do better with a higher-profile rear sight.
If I want to use a aftermarket rear sight, and am not going to commission a 'smith to build a custom sixgun, my answer remains Blackhawk.
If commissioning a 'smith to build a dream sixgun, with a custom sight set-up, well, then, perhaps a Vaquero.
The major reason I would want a fixed-sight Ruger revolver is so that it would be snag-free, if drawn from concealment. This effect would be best realized if there is no hammer spur, which means a DA revolvin' pistol. Indeed, there is a Jack Weigand custom, "Tame The Beast" package SP101 in my pocket, as I type this. (Jack Weigand does not seem to be doing custom work, any more, but he has given Gemini Customs his blessing to continue his work.)

I've only shot a super blackhawk. I like the adjustable sights and like everything about it except the dragoon style trigger guard. It is a great gun.
