Calling 454 Casull Rossi owners- seriel number runs

Post by mickbr »

Hi fellas, trying to work out general age or at least 'newest to oldest' for 454 Casull rossis based on their seriel numbers. Also if they numbers indicate whether they were the later improved versions, or the first production runs. I heard updates were made to the guns around 2005 according to a post Nate Kiowa made, and they were screwing the mag tubes in and maybe the buttplates changed as well?

Below are three guns seriel numbers I know of persoinally. All were bought pre-owned so we dont know exact vintage.

All appear to have the knurled knob on the magazine which unscrews to allow direct to mag tube loading and the heavy utalitarian rubber butt plate with the 'cross hatched' rubber between, which I assume is factory fitted. I wouldnt expect people to post their numbers but if you bought a new 454 rossi at some point and were interested in indicating where your number fits and the year, Id be interested to see if the numbers at least run numerically for age.

MA018657
MA018669
MA030452

I checked my other Rossis- two recenty bought new 44 mags but the numbers dont correllate at all, starting with NVH and NXB prefixes. Could be the MA series is for all Rossi's of an earlier vintage..

Thanks for the info. Not a very stirring response from the other 454 owners. Usually someone mentions 454 and we are all over the thread like white on rice.

Sorry late to the party - I had to contact someone who I sold one to, and on the home front, the lock to my gun safe broke...!

The numbers seem weird. Mine were bought new, but who knows how long they were on the shelf somewhere. They may all be newer than 'early production runs', if that borderline was 2005.

in 2007 I bought one (rubberish thick buttpad, stainless 20" barrel, with magazine tube screwed into receiver, tube-loading port, and the tube follower screws into the magazine tube, and the usual top-of-bolt crazy 'safety').
Serial prefix 5HO and number 1516xx

in 2014 I bought another stainless one that was 16", but otherwise identical to the first one.
Serial prefix O and number 0262xx

in 2014 I bought my third, same configuration as all of the others, only blued.
Serial prefix 5HN and number 1465xx

Those don't make sense, but that's what I got from my friend who I sold one to, and what the printed list I keep in the gun safe says. I was rushed and didn't have time to pull them out from behind the pile of other stuff today as I am crazy busy and behind or both work and chores, but next week I can double-check to be sure none were switched around if that would help.

Looks like you've given up making sense of the serial numbers?

I can contribute MAD266XX to the confusion. Blued, 20", screwed-in magazine, top safety I replaced with NKJ peep. Bought used, 10 years ago.

I wonder if there weren't a bunch of different plants casting receivers or something, or maybe batches were labeled with the initials of the shift supervisor...!

Maybe NKJ knows...???
