357 Mag Pump gun

Re: 357 Mag Pump gun
Back in the late 70's to early 80's IMI made a 357 (and 44) pump called the Timber Wolf. Never have seen one in real life but those who are lucky enough to have one love them. Seems like there would still be a market for something like that.
The Lightning repos are nice, a friend has one and is very fond of it.

Nice. I assume it's made overseas and imported by someone?

I used to shoot SASS with an older gentleman that had an original Colt in 32 wcf. I always admired that rifle. He told me they were pretty finicky about feeding.
Colt made those in small frame and large frame models. There may have been 3 sizes, I can't remember. Like the rest of you I wouldn't mind having one of those new Pedersoli's.

I'm not much a fan of pistol caliber long guns. I figure if you're going to carry a rifle, carry a rifle. Still quite a attractive piece.

3 frame sizes, if you count the .22 sized one as small, the pistol caliber as medium and the rifle one as large.JBowen wrote: ↑Wed Dec 24, 2025 8:45 pm I used to shoot SASS with an older gentleman that had an original Colt in 32 wcf. I tried using a couple of different originals for cowboy action shooting but never got them to feed reliably. Part of the problem may have been that both of mine were well worn examples. It seemed to me that the issue was using the cartridge guide in a dual purpose role as the ejector, relying on screw tension to keep from having it try to eject the empty before it cleared the chamber on the one extreme of being too tight, versus flipping the round up into a nose up orientation or farther if it was too loose. What worked acceptably with dummy rounds at home after a whole lot of tiny adjustments of the screwdriver, usually went out of whack in short order in use.
The one large frame that I had the pleasure of owning was a completely different story, but Colt used a different arrangement on it.
I've seen a Timberwolf hanging in a gunshop without a tag. I'm also pretty certain that the counter jockey was deliberately ignoring my attempts to draw his attention from his long-winded conversation about nothing in particular with one of his buddies to ask about it, so you could reasonably say that I've never seen one for sale.

I remember seeing them in the gun stores. Then later there was the Rossi then Taurus versions iirc. Was that just the .22s pump guns? Now I am doubting my memories.

I wonder if Pedersoli has been able to improve on the original medium frame. They describe briefly some changes they've made:Molasses wrote: ↑Thu Dec 25, 2025 7:15 am ... A bit seems to have been lost in the translation from the Italian, there.... introducing improvements to the internal mechanic... the new generation of Lightning rifles is characterized by movable cartridge retainers that are linked to the movement of the bolt. The cartridge, held in place by the retainers during the upward motion of the elevator, is released when entering the chamber, making the operation smooth and fast.
I don't know when they introduced this change. They've been making a Colt pump semi-clone for many years. They indicate only .45 Colt is currently offered.
