Just curious how you guys hunt quota land (farmland). Do you shoot and retrieve, track, etc. or wait for more? I do as the landowner requests, of course as long as it is legal!
Unlimited daily kills.
44-40
one kill at 40 yards
one kill at 50 yards
two kills at 75 yards
one kill at 250 yards
30-06
one kill at 200 yards

Re: Deer Quota Land
Here in the 'zone' that I hunt we can shoot unlimited doe's, 2 at a time. Meaning I can go out and shoot 2 with bow, gun, muzzle loader. Then have to 'check' them via phone or online. Go back out and do it again, day after day from September to mid February.
As for bucks only 1 allowed during fall bow, 1 for extended bow( Oct through Dec- provided you buy a buck tag) 1 for muzzle loader- gotta buy a tag, 2 bucks for firearm season , one buck allowed for permit shotgun, another tag, and a buck for winter bow.
The ML, Extended bow, permit shotgun each cost $28, buck tags are $28 each.
As for ways I've hunted, still hunting, tree stands, ground blinds have all been used.

Hard for me to fathom. Out West we have more mulies and blacktails, and the fish and wildlife departments do all they can to maximize hunter-days afield with the bare minimum of harvest success to sustain enough interest to sell tags. It is an entirely foreign scenario.

Re: Hunting On Deer Quota Land
Deer quota land in areas of the east are interesting. Without calling out specifics, one particular Quota Property I hunt is to thin out the doe population with nearly unlimited doe tags provided by the land owner, and unlimited daily harvests. Of course, the majority of the activity is at night, so daytime sightings are not as plentiful. They are so not used to being shot at, and shooting all in one small herd is not unusual.
I am taking advantage of this to fine tune some skills for having to adjust my 73's scope from 50 yards to 300 yards at a moments notice. The hardest part is getting an accurate range with the rangefinder in early morning and at near sunset when the light is dim. A small 25 yard error is big for the 73' at 200-250 yards. My last kill for the trip was at 250 yards, when the rangefinder said 206 yards...took two shots to find the target.

Re: Deer Quota Land
Yep! I can't fathom the idea of getting more than one deer a year, except for those rare years when we drew a doe tag and could get one buck and one doe. Fish & Game has things so screwed up in Oregon, and deer populations continue to fall instead of increasing. Of course the stoppage of cougar hunting with dogs did contribute greatly to dwindling deer populations, as cougar populations have exploded since that passed. Cougars average one deer a week kills, and in many units cougars have reached levels greater than deer estimates! Doesn't take long to realize that deer will go extinct here if this continues.Bill in Oregon wrote: ↑Tue Dec 02, 2025 8:43 pm Hard for me to fathom. Thanks Bill!
Same here in the NC mountains. It seems deer and turkeys are few and far between but yet the hunter, bear and coyote population is excelling.
