More than a year ago I posted a fix for the Dreaded Marlin Jam on our .44 Magnum Model 1894. I showed a photo of the bottom tang/trigger guard that had divots beaten into it from the carrier and how I made a shim and Gorilla glued it in place on the carrier.
Well, I was shooting it the other day and it locked up. When I pulled it down I found the glue had broken loose and the shim was wedged tight alongside the carrier. I got it apart and rather than trying to fasten the shim permanently, I ordered another tang/trigger guard. I found one on Ebay and had it in a few days. I cleaned it up and installed it and l am happy to report that the Carbine is running like new!
I put the Skinner peep sight on it and ordered a Marbles ivory bead for the front. This old carbine has been around awhile and was not always well taken care of before we got it. But now it is where it is working well and a pleasure to use.
Replacing the tang/trigger guard was easier than trying to fix the shim permanently in place. It would have to be silver soldered or brazed or ..? I don't have the equipment or skills. The other option is to heat and bend the carrier .020" to .025" ... again beyond my pay grade.

Re: Dreaded Marlin Jam ...update ...
I fixed the timing on my carrier with the addition of a piece of a hacksaw blade and JB Weld.

Yep, ya' just used the wrong glue Jim. My old 336A has been running 30+ yrs with a piece of spoon handle glued with an epoxy that was pre-JB. Won our Big Lever match for a grandkid a couple months ago.
