POLITICS - who would you want for VP?
If Osam---err--Obama picks Hilliary for VP, who would you want McCain to pick for VP. I'll start it up with Condoleessa Rice. She is smart and would pull alot of votes from Hilliary and Obama.

Re: way OT----who would you want for VP?
I think she would have to be on the short list and towards the top of that. they've been talking about our Fla. Gov. Charlie Christ, but he's been a real disappointment here. He would drive me eve further away from McCain than I am now.

Rice would do just fine and for all the right reasons. She just might be the smartest person in that hornet's nest.Thunder50 wrote:If Osam---err--Obama picks Hilliary for VP, who would you want McCain to pick for VP. Re: POLITICS - who would you want for VP?
Ron Paul or Collin Powell.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

I would agree with that. IMO, she would give "us" the strongest chance to win.Thunder50 wrote:If Osam---err--Obama picks Hilliary for VP, who would you want McCain to pick for VP. I'll start it up with Condolessa Rice. She is smart and would pull alot of votes from Hilliary and Obama.

Re: POLITICS - who would you want for VP?
If McCain's handlers are smart (McCain himself is too darn full of himself), they will advise him to "balance the ticket". He will need a very strong conservative to do so. Having a minority (race, sex or both) will simply add to the strength of the ticket by pulling away votes from Obama and whoever he chooses (I doubt it will be Hillary) from those who want to vote for "different". It also sends the message that the GOP is not simply made up of white men.
Fortunately, there are a large number of very well qualified candidates to fill the GOP VP slot. I agree that Condi Rice would make an excellent choice. I'd prefer Bobby Jindal, as he is also young - so will help balance the age of the ticket. JC Watts, Michael Steele, Ken Blackwell are all excellent choices. The best would be Thomas Sowell or Walter Williams from a sheer intelligence standpoint, but neither would want the job, and neither help on the age issue.
My own governor, Mark Sanford, would help on the solid-conservative credentials side and age, though not race or sex. I'd hate to lose him here, but he would be a great bottom half to the ticket. The other thing McCain should consider is picking a VP with executive experience - whether a governor or a business leader. This will help a bunch if Obama picks Richardson.
My bet is Obama picks a "moderate" white male with executive experience to balance out his ticket. This is the first race in a long time where that bottom half is really going to come into play. Especially for us - as, if McCain wins, there is a good chance the bottom half will be the top half in just 4 years, and it may help us get a real conservative in the White House soon!
Doomsday would be for McCain to pick a "moderate" or "wishy-washy" conservative - especially a "big-government" "compassionate conservative" type. He does that and he kisses the base vote goodbye, and no amount of grabbing the middle independents and moderates will carry him.
Problem is that the GOP historically rarely misses an opportunity to turn victory into defeat. We've shot ourselves in the foot so often all we have left are stubs!

The VP slot will be the most important in History since Teddy R. was VP .

I would second the Condi talk, she is extremely smart, and has a lot to offer. Also would be glad to see Alan Keyes dropped on the ticket. There are a number of other true conservatives or libertarians that I could see being a strong 2nd, not the least of which is Ron Paul.

Lieberman, let's just get it over with already.
Can any imagine what McCain voters will settle for next time around? The lesser of two evils is getting more and more evil.

I pity the Secret Service should Osnoba pick Hitlery. I'm not sure they would know how to handle an assassanation attempt on the Pres by the VP...

Re: POLITICS - who would you want for VP?
Condi made it clear in no uncertain terms that she would NOT accept a VP nomination. No ambiguous talk...just NO. Said she is headed to university life, and teaching after GW's term is over. I think it's a darn shame too..I also would vote for her as president, and if she were on McCains ticket I would vote for him just to get her in there...as it is..I still won't vote for President considering the lame choices we are presented with.

I propose my son. He's straight in the good sense of the word. He's conservative in the good sense of the word. He's smart and articulate. He knows what statism is and what the constitution says about us and governemnt. He would make a great president. He would DRILL, DRILL, DRILL. He would sever ties to jihad oil. He would sever jihads too. He would prosecute for treason the traitors who betray America. Like Pelosi for one. Like the criminals in the state department who "leak" state secrets. He'd have their butts in jail so fast it would make cnn's head spin. He knows islam is a false religion and wouldn't mince words about that. He would find a way to get rid of the anti-American judges who have lifetime appointments and are crippling the moral fabric of the country.
I saved the best for last.... he said he would put me in at Cabinet level as the DEREGULATION TZAR. Now how cool is that?
