.357 win 94 AE feed problems

Post by retmech »

My 94AE is feeding cartridges out of the mag tube under the carrier when I cycle it. It does not matter if it is cycled fast or slow they pop out of the mag tube. Would this be a problem with the end of the link?? It does not appear to be worn. Thanks Nick

retmech,

Depending on how comfortable you are tearing down you rifle you may want to remove the loading gate and look for this little jewel Image

It is a cartridge stop for the undersized 357mag cartridge (when used in the win 94 action) I have had one wear out and have replaced it. The front "face" or hook wore and broke off and so the cartridges would slip by, the would still cycle ok but you could not put another cartridge into the loading gate until all the existing cartridges were fired or racked out of the action. It screws to the lever and can be removed/attached through the loading gate space. Winchester has replacements for a few dollars last I checked.

The 357mag is the only 94 to need this part as far as I know. The 44mag is fat enough and the 30/30 is long enough not to need this.

hope this helps.
regards

If they are going under the carrier, it's the cartridge stop on the front of the lever link.

Call winchester and they will have you send the broken one in and then they will replace it for free. Buy a second one too. They are $22.00

Thanks for the help guys. Parts are on order. I bought the gun used and now I see why he sold it! I only paid $300 and the gun looks like new and shoots great so I think I still did ok. Looking in the action it appears the cartridge stop was broken off, just the part under the screw remains. Browning says I must send the old link back in and they will determine if a credit is in order. I may just keep it and have a friend weld the end of the link and reshape it if it looks doable. Again thanks!

They are doable, I've done a couple. Took me a coupla trial "fittings" to get mine shaped "just right." I used some "hard face" rod for my horseshoin' so I won't have to worry about future wear.
