I got my Acculine 505 scale in the mail today and decided to try it out on a batch of .45 bullets I got from Bullet Caster Inc. I never used a scale before and it was real easy and real fun. I weighed out 3 groups of 10 to see if I could get a feel for how the box of 1K would be like.
This is what panned out...
.45 225gr FN lead pre-lubed
Min-Max= 224.6gr-228.2gr
Spread= 3.6gr
Mean= 226.3gr
Std Dev= .98gr
I re-read Junior's page on seperating bullets using the standard deviation method then downloaded the Excel/Works spreadsheet that is at the bottom of the page.
I was happy with the results I got considering that 70% of them fell within 1 Std Dev of the mean, or, 70% fell within .5% of the mean weight(99.5%-100.5%). I think that's satifatory enough anyways.
I will be testing my RB's tommorow to see what secrets they hold for me.

One of the neatest things about our "pursuit" - you can get into it deeper and deeper as your time, knowledge, and (most importantly) your wallet allows!!!

I really liked the spread-sheet that Junior made. It makes the figuring a snap since it's all done by the sheet, you just add the data. If you don't care for limiting yourself to 15 entries you can edit the equations to a list that's as long as you like. I ran one down the side that contained all 30 of my entries for a little more accurate figure.
