16 gauge ammo

Post by Turdyturdy »

I know most ammo is hard to get but do any of you members know where I can buy 16 gauge ammo? I have searched the Internet and lots of listings but all out of stock. I have clicked on a lot of "notify me" buttons for several months to no avail. A year ago I was buying it at Walmart for nine dollars a box!

Probably won't see it until mid to late summer at the soonest, maybe even fall as 16 stuff is mostly hunting , not used for skeet/trap so production runs are small. Yeah I know ya can't find reloading stuff either but I'd look into a press & supplies.
www.ballisticproducts.com , they usually have components for all gauges.

Currently it doesn't much matter what gauge shotgun, or caliber firearm you need ammo for. It's all going to be very tough to find. I'd not worry about finding ammo you don't have now. Wait a year from now, and maybe you'll see shelves begin to restock again.

I have been lucky lately. Federal seems to be the only one making it, or releasing it right now. Found a case on the shelf at a local Wally world a couple months ago and took half of it, and my lgs got in 3 cases last week and I grabbed one of #6.

That's a tough one to find, even in good times. I picked up an Iver Johnson single barrel years ago and gave it to my brother. Sixgun sent him a 16 gauge Lee loader and he's picked up the odd box every now and then so he's good to go. The old gun doesn't get much use, but it's got a bit of fodder to chew on occasionally.

Do you have an Academy Sports near you? That's the last place I recall seeing 16 gauge - three years ago. I can't help but wonder what I'll find (or not) later this year when I head north for a few weeks.

Actually we are at our winter home in central Florida. Checked Walmart in New Smyerna Beach today. All they had was 2 boxes of Winchester 30-06 and a few Winchester AA 12 gauge. We will travel back to Vermont about 1 May. I will watch the Walmarts up there and hope to score a few.

I shoot a ton of
16ga, clays, doves, quail, chickens, Pheasants etc. Used to buy most of mine in April or May as many places had them on sale (whatever didn't sell in the fall)
I am in same boat, as 16ga will be about the last thing loaded, so probably August or September.
I have plenty in both 2.5" and 2.75" for hunting this fall, but would like a bunch for clays to practice all summer.

I'm still kicking myself to death over not stocking up on some. Honestly, I thought Trump would still be in charge, this mess be over soon! But, my favorite squirrel shotgun is an old Winchester SS. Don't look good right now

Two weeks ago I did find 3boxes of Remington 16 gauge game loads with black hulls. Nothing but trouble. Most rounds shot in my Winchester model 12 show blown primers. Those shot in my Remington model 11 do the same. I qued the Internet and that has been a common problem back to about 2013. Don't know if those rounds are still made or not.

Well Remington is back up and producing ammo again. Hopefully they'll get their act together.

When Jerry's/Ellet Brothers were going out of buisness I think I got 10 or 12 flats (250 rounds each) of 16 gauge shells . Some of the Remington's with the black hulls and all the rest were Winchester . I bought them mainly for the hulls . And no none are for sale .

I've list count, but I think I have 5 shotguns in 16, including my very 1st gun.
Our local farm and ranch store remodeled a few years ago and I bought every box of 16 they had.

I used to order it by the case from Cabelas and Bass Pro. Same price as 12 or 20. Never found cases in their stores, but they always had it online.

Hang on it may be improving , Wal-Mart had 25 boxes of Winchester 12ga AA trap loads for $7.49 yesterday. I don't think it will be too long before We see lots more including 16 ga.
