A pile of scrap lumber and a bit of plywood...

Post by AmBraCol »

add a round tuit and a reasonable facsimile of a shooting bench appears. We've been going pedal to the metal for the last few months, so it was great to take a bit of time and do something "therapeutic". Slapped the plywood on an old pallet, threw some legs on, braced 'em with scrap lumber, rattle canned the plywood to promote a bit of weather proofing (what manages to blow in under the roof) as well as attaching a bit of old rubber mat. Tossed it on the car this morning and hauled it off to the gun club. First time out there in a couple of months. Did me good to get away from the urban rumble/congestion/pollution/racket/stress and other modern conveniences and hear the breeze blow, the birds sing and the bull frogs croak.

Took along a couple air rifles and a couple CO2 pistols and tried out the bench. It works! Next move will be to haul the designated Air Benchrest rifle out and see how she does off of a better rest than the one I used last time out with her.

I call that good ole "common sense redneckin'"....might even go as far as saying it's a little too uppity for my liking.

As long as the legs are all the same length with no wobbles, I'd say your good-to-go....weather looks nice there.....where is that?

The price sure was right.........like the 18 2" x 4" x 8' boards I got from a relative yesterday....there never was a nail driven in any of them along with the end tags still stapled on them...straight as an arrow........they were left outside over the winter and were dirty.-----006

Very nice and a good use of that lumber.

I love building things and working with wood. I did a little project this weekend as well. I had an old set of grips for a Ruger Bisley, but they did not fit any gun I had. They were proud in the front and needed to be sanded down to fit. But in the sanding, I found that these relatively plain grips had some figuring.

Dirty 2X4's - oh, the humanity!

As for location, that's our local gunclub range, San José, Caldas municipal area (county equivalent) At around 3,000 ft above sea level it can get quite "warm", but fortunately we've had a nice, cool spring so far. Lovely weather indeed, didn't even break a sweat down there.

It's right enough. Those "old Ruger Bisely grips" are stunning. I can only imagine them in person in the sunlight. I bet that really brings out the color and figure.
