Gotta love Colonel Cooper

Post by 4t5 »

Once said..
"It appears the murder rate inside prisons is ten times higher than outside prisons,it must be due to all those kalashnikov rifles they issue them upon incarceration."
I also heard he stated he used hardball ammo for reliability, and .45 cal, because it goes in at a diameter other calibers hope to achieve, but haven't been able to verify that one.
Would have liked to have a beer with that man.

I cannot stand beer, but I would have liked to have a coffee with him.

I would of been most happy to have supplied Col. Cooper with the beverage of his choice and would of been tickled to sip whatever with him

If you read his book - "To Ride, Shoot Straight, and Speak the Truth",
AND read "Unrepentant Sinner" by Charles Askins,
AND read "Hell - I was THERE" by Elmer Keith,

THEN you will have a feel for what MEN were like a couple generations ago...!

"first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.

My favorite quotes/stories from Mr Cooper was when he was describing killing japs...."those little buggers had to be dug out of those caves then we shot em with 1911's and Thompsons and the 230 gr hardball would make em do somersaults.....

Then he wrote ...or words to the effect that "inner city people are killing each other and not one in 100 is a loss to society." :D

He was "da man". I met him at the NRA building during an annual meeting shortly before he died....I didn't talk to him.....just got close.....he was very worn out and in a wheelchair...which is to be expected for a man who accomplished so much....----006

He was the man that inspired my interest in the 1911 pistol. He was most definitely from the greatest generation!

Colonel Cooper was one who learned how to lead and teach, and he led the way for a generation of Americans who learned to shoot handguns in his style and classes.

He was awesome! One of my top 5 gunwriters. Colonel Charles Askings (Doc made mention of his book) was another.

Let's face it all of the current "experts" don't have a fingernails worth of the common sense, skill and knowledge of old guard. Seems many are trying to prove the old guys wrong even though history and experience continues to prove them right.

When my eldest decided to become a cop I gave him Ayoob's In The Gravest Extreme. Now here's a kid with three tours in the middle east and he said it was one of the best books he'd ever read.

Cooper enjoyed Shiner Bock when I was at Gunsite.

I drank one at his tomb several years ago with some good friends Robert Leahy, Ed Head and a few others. Good memories.
