Are there any veterinarians on board ?

Post by milton »

Curiosity question:I can buy a product to add to my dogs water that will cut down or eliminate dental plaque :why is there not a product like this that humans can safely use?

Not a vet, or ever played one on TV, but a lot of people drink apple cider vinegar mixed in water, sometimes mixed with a little honey that claims to help with that, among other ailments

Because if there was the ADA and it’s members would take a huge financial hit.

I imagine many things could be prevented. But money for research is spent on cures. That where the money is.

Not sure why humans can't buy it. I put it in my dog's water. They seem to like it.

Isn't fluoride added (less than 1 ppm) to many municipal water supplies at the purifying/pumping facility to prevent dental cavities?

(Although some water filters that people use strip it back out.)

It seems like the more rotten carcasses with maggots our dogs find and eat, and the more other-species poop they can eat, the better they feel....

Seriously: I've started putting some melted a couple of tablespoons of coconut oil on the kibble. It's cleaned up Odie's gingivitis, and taken a good bit of the brown off his teeth. It seems that it kills germs. There are those that swear that "oil pulling" with coconut oil is super for humans, as well.
Plenty of good reviews for it.
It's also good for doggy ears. Regular use knocks out those stinky fungus problems, and smothers ear mites.
