375 WINCHESTER

Post by roughcreek »

Has anyone loaded their 375 WINCHESTER according to PACO's article? With the long 38-55 brass? Would appreciate any comments on your results.

Thanks, Roughcreek

If you do a google search you will find a pic of sectioned 38/55, 30/30 and 375 Win brass. The 38/55 brass is quite thin in the case head area. When pushed 38/55 brass bulge quite markedly. In my view you should only use 38/55 brass for low pressure loads. They were designed to maximise case volume for BP use, not hot smokeless loads.

I have also used a lot of reformed 30/30 brass. While they were built for higher pressure use, there is quite a variation in capacity, strength and durability between different brands. I found PMC the best but are now discontinued, followed by Winchester. Try to stick to the one brand if going down this path.

I have loaded the long starline brass (38-55) in 2 375 Win. a 94 & a Savage 99, it was with cast bullets
and modest pressure & that combo worked well

I use 38-55 brass in my 375s as well. Used to use a lot of 30-30 brass blown out but with the longer Starline brass available that is all my guns see now. I dont go as high as Paco with my loading.
