Annual Leverguns Community Dustup anyone?

Post by AmBraCol »

Hey guys, how's life treating you in your own corner of the globe? Here between the Canal and the Equator at 4135 ft elevation in Coffee Country we're getting plenty of stormy weather and temps between 15 and 35... Centigrade that is.

It's been brought to my attention again from various sources that some folks simply can't obey simple instructions to keep things civil. Yeah, you're locked up due to lousy weather or you're bored because you're retired or you simply can't be bothered to follow the Golden Rule. Sorry. There's plenty of other forums out there that don't mind that kind of behavior. One of the great things about the Leverguns Community is that USUALLY we self police and keep things decent. But about once a year or so folks get to feeling frisky and decide to indulge in posting contrary to the principles stated on this forum.

One thread's been locked due to repeated abuse of that thread for said posting behavior. Hopefully we can move on and keep it clean. If you simply can't abide by the rules, just step away from the keyboard and monitor and go do something else for a while. We'll have the light on when you decide to come back.

"Forum Behavior" is part of the title in a sticky that's been up there for years. So long it's got fly specs on it... funny, it was posted about the same time of year.

Yeah, I wiped this post clean. And now I'm locking it. It just seems like a good idea to let folks cool down a bit and move on.

Right now my wife and are in the middle of a move, as though our usual ministry work load weren't enough. We're tickled pink as it's the first place we've been able to call our "own" for the past over quarter of a century. But to get it going takes a lot of time, effort and energy - which unfortunately doesn't leave much time for forum moderation and such.

All I'm asking is - move on.

Years ago I came across an interesting directive, "In so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men." Some things are worth fighting and even dying for. Posts on a forum don't seem to rank that high up on the list - in my opinion. Another handy bit is "First take the beam of wood out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the splinter out of your brother’s eye." And of course "Therefore, whatever you want others to do for you, do also the same for them". Simple things that used to be taught, but which our society now routinely ignores or twists them around.

My intention with the post this morning was simply to request folks to pay attention to your own attitudes and actions. You can't answer for someone else, but you CAN control your own self.

This is no Zuckerstan where we try to force folks to conform to a certain way of thinking - other than to insist on polite interaction.

If you've made it this far, thanks for taking the time. I appreciate those who make up this community and hope we can get back to discussing leverguns instead of infighting among ourselves.
