my #1 home defense tool

Post by Grizz »

actually, I have an older model to this upgrade. this is lighter than any AR or AK, can run 20+ round mags, and is superb as a pistol replacement for indoor engagements, if it gets to that.....

hopefully this is the video link. out of stock of course, but if you ever see one, don't let it get away

Yep. Those are really nice. Fit in a backpack or briefcase too.

....within a month or so they will probably be 'NFA items' unless we really push our legislators though....

The .40 S&W caliber ones make a snapping sound when fired, and the muzzle velocity is about the same as a warm loaded 10mm.
The 9mm ones give a muzzle velocity that is getting into .357 out of a 6 inch barrel revolver territory.

Because of the increase in muzzle velocity, the emphasis on good bullets becomes even more important. If you have them, 147 grain bullets in the 9mm at houseclearing ranges are very effective from that 16 inch barrel.

Those are interesting to me, and a nice in between carbine to fit between my handguns, and AR15. Looks like everybody is sold out, except Gunbroker, where they're getting over inflated prices. So doubt I'll be picking one up anytime soon.

#1 are the dogs.
They are the alert ... the warning signal.
They are the first line of defense ... especially when we are otherwise occupied.
I always felt badly when my dogs did not get to chew on some part of an intruders anatomy.

My 6 pound Chihuahua/Dachshund mix is a great alarm. She will not be able to do much damage, but that is my territory. If I need to, I have some firearms I can grab quickly. By the time an intruder finds the little black dog with the unbelievably loud bark, I can be there with something to cause serious damage. Of course, the 40 pound Irish Terrier will be chewing on that same intruder. She is a monster sized purebred Irish Terrier. We have papers on her. Most are 25% smaller.

Hurt my dogs and I will not take kindly to your actions.

Chihuahua
ah yes, the Mexico alarm system. There are houses in Mx with cat walks, dog walks more correctly, that wrap all around the house. The dog patrols from there. Genious.

We were visiting an NGO in the city of Nampula, Mozambique. They showed us to our quarters and then asked if we noticed the fence around where we were staying. That fence was inside a larger fence that went around the perimeter of the property. We said yes, we noticed. They said, Do not go outside your fence after 10PM. The dogs that run the perimeter will eat you. We slept well that night.

I experienced the same thing in Mx. There was a big chain link enclosure and the guests were instructed to ignore the dogs and not befriend them. they are intentionally kept on a "no-fraternize" status. They weren't released while the compound was occupied by missionaries, but they got to roam at night when the ranch was back to normal status.

Some doge are small and make great alarms, and some big ones seldom bark. At least one of eack size sounds good to me.

Our little 9 lb. dog is barkless, and rarely makes a sound unless she's really excited about food! Pretty useless as a early warning system, but sure appreciate the quiet.

That is more than twice what I paid. I do take mine when going on long trips. I can hit better with it at 100 yards than with a pistol.

Being slow to learn, I have for decades relied on my brain as my #1 defense tool for all situations.

It has malfunctioned a couple of times but only when it was ignored.

A relatively short pistol caliber carbine works pretty good at home defense distances. The longer barrel is easy to see over to line it up even in a big hurry. It is not necessary, but it isn't a hindrance.

We have a great (and house shaking loud) early warning system. Our Pyrenees barks at any sound it deems to be from a threat. A leaf hitting the window at 3am is a good example.

Whether your Pyrenees is friendly or not, they are such a large breed that they seem scary when they bark.

Soapbox Mode on:
My dogs are just the noisemakers to wake me up. If I decide you are a threat, then I am the most dangerous thing in the house. I might feel bad later, but in the moment I will just stop the threat with anything I can grab. If we are going to be prepared to defend our homes, then we must be prepared to stop the threat. If the threat insists on forcing us to kill it, then we must do what it takes. I am sure not a single one of us wants to end an intruders life. Not wanting to do it and allowing the intruder to kill us or our family is a completely separate idea. I do not want to take an old and suffering dog to the Vet to be put to permanent sleep, but I have done it because it was the right thing to do. To me, the ideas are similar in being something I do not wish to do. I am going to do them even though I do not want to.

Piller put it well.

First line of defense is a low profile lifestyle. Then a good fence, with alarm signs (for a different company than the ones we actually use, just to throw any technical-types off). Then dogs. Then more dogs. Then external heat and motion detectors. Then cameras. Then house alarms. Then sturdy doors and windows. Then cellphones and 911 and deputies that don't mess around. Get past all that and it won't be pleasant for anyone.
