Simple, and probably effective within limits.

That's about as simple as a cartridge firing gun can get. For simpler yet go with no moving parts and a touch hole drilled in the barrel. That cruder design was more fun to shoot as the wide buttstock spreads the recoil out. I suspect he was shooting low brass game loads out of it, high brass buckshot would be definitely less fun to shoot.

They would work. Their job was to get you a combat weapon and whatever else the enemy was carrying.

I have watched several YouTube videos on how to make these but I never knew that they were at one time commercially produced and sold....very cool 8)

Not sure about the recoil pad but jamming the muzzles into gravel will definitely add to the lethality.....

Yeah - - - imagine firing a 1 oz slug outta that...

There's a guy (or was, haven't checked lately) named Royal Nonesuch that has a YouTube channel making all sorts of rimfire and centerfire rifles, handguns, and shotguns like that.

Guess he may still be out there - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEdXy3GVlA0
