Cool. The clay items could be fun if you ever go to a Renaissance Faire. The one around here will allow people to walk around and enjoy beverages of their choice in fired clay(ceramic type) hand made mugs as long as it looks hand made or if it looks like something from that time. Plastic bottles must contain something like Pepsi or Coke Or Dr. Pepper or Orange Fanta or Country Time Lemonade or Sprite. The re-enactors stay in costume and stay in character. Lots of the people who go there for fun will dress in costume, too. Handmade drinkware will immediately tell the people there that you are their type. Could get you a few new contacts and some great tips on ways to make a better item for personal use.

The grand finally, three inches of sawdust in the bottom then five pieces of pottery then about five inches of wood shavings then a layer of oak board then big oak on that.
Big stuff has burned down to coals ,now covered for the night.
Fingers crossed.

Well done Lenn, making anything that serves a purpose is worthwhile. Shirley used to make her living making ceramic items, firing them in a kiln, so I know how tricky it is... 8)

Well that was a total failure, the clay was low fire and three coats of glaze.
Will have to research more.

Lenn, you need to "bisque fire" your fully-dried pieces first, and air pockets are your mortal enemy. Then you glaze and fire a second time.

Your right on Bill, i just heated a small piece of clay let it cool then glazed and reheated and it worked.
I see ya can buy a microwave thing ya put your clay in and heat it red hot in the microwave twice.
I have to wait for the last pottery to fully dry then i`m going to try heating it with a blow torch to red hot twice.
Live and learn. :)

The learning process can be frustrating on everything. Good luck with it.

I gathered all the parts for a downdraft barrel kiln but never actually assembled and lit the thing. Wish I had.
