My dad sent me a pretty cool Christmas present.

Post by 2ndovc »

I've been looking for a WWII dated Iron Cross to go with my near perfect Lugar. I mentioned this to my dad a week or two before he was heading to FL for the winter. He does a lot of shows down there with his friend that has been buying and selling WWII memorabilia for decades. He came across a very nice 1939 Iron Cross and sent it to me. I told him I'd pay for it if he found one. He just laughed and said Merry Christmas.

I only have a couple of German pistols, most of my collection is British, Russian, Finn and US arms and I look at the German guns as trophies and nothing more. They lost and our guys took their stuff.

Beautiful! I have a bunch of German stuff from the war that relatives picked up. No guns.
I traded for a 1939 S/42 Luger and a nice issue holster when I was in high school. I had it for a while and sold it to fund something else.
I've always wanted another, along with a k98, to go with my other stuff.

That's a great Christmas gift, Jason, and yes, you are so fortunate to have your father still with you.
I bought a very similar-looking Iron Cross replica for $4 or $5 at Ye Olde Curiosity Shop on Pier 54 in Seattle when I was about 12 --circa 1965. That was a lot of allowance mone at the time! Great store, complete with mummies and a collection of real shrunken heads.

Thanks guys.

Dad's going to be 80 in January, still going strong and sharp as ever. He was on a tear yesterday, he'd lost a hearing aid and shocked over the prices of a new set. He asked the lady if the $7500 set came with a pair of new 1911s? She wasn't quite sure how to answer that. :D

That's great!
Sounds a lot like my dad. He is 79 and still hunting out of tree stands with a 94 carbine. Still excited to hunt and by life in general.
Every day with him is a gift.

Looks good. One Uncle brought home a German Officer Dress Dagger. It was taken from a German Officer. He had to leave a drilling behind that he couldn't get home. Smashing it under a tanks treads made him very sad from what he said.

Thanks Lenn.

Bill, my dad is a pretty funny guy in a dry, Monty Python kind of way. He s also very smart and a lot of his humor goes right over some people's head. I always used to get a big kick out making him laugh. Still do actually. :D
