Hazards of wintertime projects

Post by earlmck »

Processing empties -- one of my wintertime projects. 30/30 is one of my main cartridges, I have this little "system" whereby I shoot all the R-P brass up and then switch to the WW brass while the R-P gets readied for re-use . Yesterday seemed a good time to size/deprime and then go ahead and wash those R-P's. Last night I emptied the ole' Thumbler's out and had 'em all spread out on the picnic table for drying today, though it is supposed to get precipitous by this evening. Looked out a few minutes ago and it is snowing. Sheesh! I was supposed to have most of the day for drying: guess I better move 'em in by the fire if they are going to dry sometime this decade.

I solved my wintertime brass drying problems with one of these:

It works great but does take up a fair amount of shelf space when not in use.

Boy that fire looks cozy, Earl. Burning juniper? I heard juniper dries cases faster than most other fuel woods. 8)

Yeah, nice to sit here and keep the fire fed while the weather happens outside. I don't know if other wood would work to dry brass but the juniper had 'em nicely dry in a couple hours.

And Steve, I don't do the pins either: I'm just a soap 'n water guy, with maybe a dab of lem-shine. My strategy does require a little dry time however.

Try used dryer sheets in with your lizard litter. I was very skeptical when I was told about this but have been using it for years and it’s free. I cut the dryer sheets into 6-8 pieces and place them in the tumbler.

Hey Earl, try getting a food dehydrator. They work pretty well to dry the cases for me. They do take up some room. With several trays, you can dry a lot of cases pretty fast.
