Things to do during quarantine....Put together another AR
I'd ordered a .450 Bushmaster upper from Windham about six weeks ago and was finally delivered yesterday. They're a little behind these days.
Not the finished rifle it's going to be but I'm not one to ever be bored. There's always something to do. I had the rest of the stuff in my parts cabinet.
The lead time gave me a chance to pick up some ammunition, (it's not flying off the shelves like the NATO rounds), dies, bullets and some brass. Still want a fixed style stock and probably an EER scope. The pop ups are ok for now, but not great and dot/holographic sights and I just don't get along.
I'm hoping to make some handloads tomorrow. Just something to do on a cold, rainy COVID day.
A 5.56 and .45ACP for comparison. The .450 is a Hornady 396 gr. subsonic. Those should be fun.

Nice, fun little thumper what length barrel. Big bullet going 1000fps or so make big noise on gongs..
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Barrel is 16", should make some big noise with the lighter weight bullets zipping along too.3leggedturtle wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 3:15 pm Nice, fun little thumper what length barrel. Big bullet going 1000fps or so make big noise on gongs..
I'd like to use it as a boar gun next time I go and I'm way overdue for another trip.

I've had a 450 upper for years, one of the only cartridges I've loaded for that shoots just about the same no matter the bullet or powder! It's a good thumper for sure!

The .450 bullets weighing almost 400 graing going around 1,000 fps should slap a pig pretty hard. I have a .458 SoCom. 325 grain bullets with H110 are supposed to be about 1,800 fps. If doesn't kick bad at all. Big bullets moving at a moderate velocity are still accurate and effective.

I have a definite preference for big slow moving cartridges. Probably shoot more .45-70s a year than anything else.piller wrote: ↑Sun Dec 13, 2020 1:11 am The .450 bullets weighing almost 400 graing going around 1,000 fps should slap a pig pretty hard. I bet it aint Bronco's first rodeo hih! In Jason's defense he probably was distracted by a young philly......

Well, Jason's distraction is not exactly young, however she is still not at all old. Quality maintains good value.
