If there were not people who do things such as he did, quite a few calibers might not have been invented. I know your friend didn't invent the .221 fireball, but he figured out a way to make it work.

I’ve had a few friends who are cartridge collectors, so I have resigned myself to not having a full lot of brass even initially, if I get something in a new or odd chambering.

FYI- 444 Marlin cases WILL split (three out of three times) if fires in a Marlin 45-70 Guide Gun...

(...I wondered why the 25-yard groups were so lousy.... But hey, both guns said “Marlin” on them so it should be ok, right...?)

I did something like that once. .45 Colt will fire and extract in a .480 Ruger, but accuracy is lousy and the cases split.

Just like a .22 LR will fire in a .22 Mag. even though the case splits.
