That is Fugly. Shame to ruin such a beautiful rifle that way. Some might find it good looking, but not to me.

Don't know what it costs to replace the wood, but if you want it, I would deduct the cost of replacing the wood, from the price. Plus a inconvenience factor of shipping the gun back and waiting on it to be fixed.

Except for the tacks, great looking piece of wood

It s ok I guess to do that thing to a rifle your going to keep forever but if you decide to sell it your going to take a big hit in the resale price unless you get lucky and find a person who likes it as much as you did

I'd buy it, but at a big discount. Tacks on an original that was owned by an American Indian is kind of cool but not on a new one. Maybe a prop company for Hollyweird would pay well for it.

Start at $1,400 and deduct $50 for every tack...

WOW, hard to believe what some folks think makes something better! Those tacks on the top of that stock look like they might cause a bit of discomfort.

Interesting, but the person that did that, did not understand or does not know how a Sharps operates. The buyer/owner will never be able to drop the lever and block out of the receiver. The tacks on the forearm will not allow the lever pin to rotate forward and then pull-out for general cleaning and repair.

Plus tacks in the wrist near the hammer plate will shortly cause a nice split in the thin wrist section.

I would like to see the tacks on the other side of the rifle stocks.

Or, the owner could just remove the forearm by removing the two screws holding the forearm in place, then turning and removing the lever pin.

I do this on my Sharps rifles as I keep the lever spring in tight adjustment/tension. I find that by loosening the spring it is easier to remove and replace the lever pin when removing/installing the block, then tightening up the screw holding the lever spring under tension.

Granted, doing that to a gun in that condition seems like a crime. That said, having grown up with family lore that I had American Indian blood in me (doubtful now given my family research and genetics), the motif does speak to me. I would have just done it with a reproduction that wasn't in the best of shape... and certainly not an original.

It is possible the tack holes could be steamed closed with a damp cloth and a hot iron.
However, I suspect the idiot predrilled the holes. They are too perfectly aligned.

The biggest problem with buying this Sharps is that the price I would offer the present owner would probably offend him as in his ad for the Sharps he seems very proud of it doesn t see it for the eyesore that in my eyes it is.It might be possibly fixed like was suggested by steaming the holes shut but one would have to be very careful not to further damaging the stock removing the tacks
