Hit the "Wood Lottery" (Browning Citori CXS 20 ga)

Post by Old No7 »

Gee, I think I hit the "Wood Lottery" on this one...

I went into my now-favorite LGS to shop for a 20 gauge Citori White CXS (crossover model) O/U shotgun with 30" barrels, thinking it would make a great companion piece to the heavier 12 ga Citori CX 32" I have for clays shooting, which fits me and shoots very well. It turns out the 30" and 32" ones they had didn't fit or point very well for me and both had rather "bland" wood on them too.

Nope, you don't "shoot the wood", but I’ll admit I was really drawn to the figure and swirls in the 28" one that he handed me next -- so I brought her home with me. Here's the wood, with the colors of the cell phone image adjusted so the cardboard backer is a close match to how it looked in that lighting:

As I said, the pretty wood sure won't shoot any better, but she's not too bad to look at while waiting for game or the next clay to show up, and I’m thinking the shorter 28" tubes will handle a little better for me out in field too. But overall, the better fit is what sold me on it (yup, that was a lesson that took me a few years and previous guns to learn).

Pull!

Looks good. Yep! Beats the look of plastic every which way.

Congratulations, that is one pretty piece of wood. I was sitting in a deer blind a few years ago and glanced down at my Ruger #1 and remember thinking that it sure was easier to be sitting there with a beautiful rifle than with a piece of plastic.
