Admitting myself to be an old fool

Post by Bill in Oregon »

Okay. Got myself good this afternoon. Called my sweetie on the cell, and while we got to talking I realized I didn't have my phone handy. Looked all over the house, in the truck, etc., when she said, Bill you're talking to me on your phone. We both started laughing. Old. Getting old.
This beats putting the cortisone cream on my toothbrush, I'm afraid.

Bah. It isn't you getting old

As a young airman back in the day, finished working on a jet when we were deployed on exercise.

Late at night we spent almost half an hour looking for the flashlight to fill in that one slot in the toolbox after inventory.

Starting to panic (a lost tool on the the flight line is A Very Big Deal) and then we realized what we were using to look for the the flashlight...was the flashlight.

I do have to mention the night before we were up very late, and yes, some alcohol was involved.

Funny how the mind works (or doesn't) sometimes.

We will all do something like that someday. I haven't yet, but I am only 55. I have learned to make sure I put my glasses on in the morning before brushing my teeth. I also turn on the light above the sink so that I can see what I am picking up. In the dark, one tube feels pretty much like another. I used to leave the light off.

I had just retired. About the same time my dad started to get Alzheimer`s. It was a trying time as he was a widower and lived in Wisconsin, I in California. It was a bad couple of years of me flying back and forth and living with him for six months as at first he was stubborn to go to assisted living and I
couldn't bring myself to go to court and have him declared incompetent.
Finally I knew we were in big trouble. He already had his drivers license taken away. One morning we were going somewhere and I thought I hadn't parked his car yesterday at this angle.
As we were leaving he told me a stranger had come to the house last night and needed help. Dad said I drove him to this intersection right here, looked over and no one was with me!

I hear Ya, but not very well. Deafining is disorienting... I have reading glasses in every room and every container in the house and car, and I can still spend time trying to find them.
