web search engine.

Post by rossim92 »

I use google and have noticed ads pop up on web pages I am visiting later on about things I have visited earlier Even though I have the do not track me in settings activated in googles settings. There is a billboard advertising duck duck go by me that says it does not sell your search info, thinking about kicking google off and using it, Anybody here use duck duck go, and will I have the same problem with them? Are they a good search engine? thanks.

The TOR browser comes with DuckDuckGo as the search engine.
Since TOR is dedicated to people not being tracked and records of online use being kept about as private as possible, they chose DuckDuckGo since it does not record your IP address or put cookies on your computer that can track you.
It works quite well.
If you want to control your privacy, get rid of everything Google .... in my opinion.

I also use duckduckgo. Google is part of the problem this country is in.
Its true they do not track you.

At work one day we were talking about TOW BOAT USA and how they rescue stranded boaters. Sure enough we all got ads a few days later for TowBoatUSA ads while using other apps.

I have been using startpage, but might switch back to duckduck. I don't think that will stop the directed ads associated with u2oob. Also, there is a way to have some say in the privacy settings of your joogle account. big PIA but might be worth it. it's a compliance issue for them because some stupid politicians think they have privacy rights. where would they get that idea?

I don't mind "directed advertising" (in fact sometimes it is useful for reminding me of something I wanted to buy, or at least check out), but given the Marxist leanings of the 'social media' and 'internet search' companies, I have NO doubt that they would eagerly cooperate with a despotic government, as long as it cut them in on the loot. THAT is the part that disgusts me.

Same with 'wearing masks' - in my office I made a sign that said

"Due to Indiana Law - Virtue-Signaling is now required"

then I crossed out 'Virtue-Signaling' and wrote 'Mask-Wearing'...

I don't mind it when businesses require it, or professional organizations advise it, or even if government recommends it - but when government DEMANDS anything, I get prickly neck hairs.

"first do no harm" - gun control LAWS lead to far more deaths than 'easy access' ever could.
