Lever Round Lineup

Post by FLINT »

Hey guys,

I frequently like to admire and fondle my leverguns, and sometimes I even like to admire their ammo. I did an ammo lineup, and then thought maybe it would be fun to post.

Here are individual bullets for each of the levergun calibers I have. I'm sure you guys can guess what the calibers are, I don't think there is anything tricky. They are arranged in order of date of introduction from oldest on the left to youngest on the right. See if you can identify what calibers they are. All but two of them are winchester powerpoints to keep comparisons straightforward. You could also guess which ones are not powerpoints for an additional challenge if you like.

Maybe - 375 Win, 32-40, 30-30, 32 Special, 35 Rem, 308 Win...?

...or I guess '38-55' would be the proper 'first one' if thinking vintage...

and since it was mentioned here is a fired 308 marlin round for comparison. My wife's grandfather has one and I shot it a couple years ago and kept the brass.

I also used to own a 375 big bore and had a few boxes of winchester power points, should have kept one of those rounds. I did keep one piece of brass. here it is for comparison also. its a little shorter even than the short 38-55 brass used in the winchester factory ammo.

I'm late to the game but I did figure out what they all were without looking. The only one that had me going for a minute was the 300 Savage. After looking at the neck closely and seeing how short it was I knew what cartridge it was. I've owned lever guns myself in all the calibers but 38-55.
