Source of Parts for "Okanogan Shooting Sticks" made by Wind

Post by Old No7 »

Following up on the posting about these "Okanogan Shooting Sticks" in the classified section, as they're not available to buy since Wind's passing (RIP), I'd noted over there that a marine supply store or Chandlery could be a good source for some parts needed to make your own set.

Well it turns out the combo lock on my hard-sided canvas/leather shotgun case just failed and I found a replacement online. This site that I found would also be a great source for all the buckles, rings, leather straps and other misc hardware needed for those shooting sticks -- everything you need, except for the wood and skills.

I'm posting this info here in this forum, so more of those who might be interested in making a set of those shooting sticks can see it.

Kudos' to marlinman93 for all the photos and dimensions on the sticks. Well done!

Hope this helps someone.

I’m up for making a set. Can you help me find the link to the dimensions?
Kind regards,

Not a link to the plans, but here is a Youtube Vall posted a while back showing Wind shooting a Shiloh Sharps with his sticks.

I could not find the dimensions on any posts on this site, but you might search for those by name on the Marlin Owners site. I recall that Wind used to post over there regularly.

If you find them -- please post them here.

I hesitated to give anyone dimensions when my friend was still with us, but I have no problem doing so now. They really aren't straight sizes though as the 3 legs of his sticks were cut wider at the base, and tapered up to the pivot point. Most hardware was purchased, but pivot screw he made from brass rod, and a cartridge head epoxied to one end.
I'll get some measurements, and pictures closeup to show what he used to make them. When Wind passed a small group of us went to the U-Pick Sagebrush Ranch and helped get things done for his family. We found the makings of 12 sets of sticks cut, and varnished, but not finished or assembled. We set to assembling those sets, and when others showed up a couple days later e sold these last sets to guys who came for our annual shoot. I've got a little hardware still, but prefer to hang onto it. Karla of Purdy Gear holsters did all the leather work for Wind that included the strap, and leather protective strips where the barrel sits in the V. She retired some years back, so she wont be doing the leather work anymore. You'll have to make do for the strap and leather strips through some other source now.

Thanks, Vall. I recall you shared dimensions not too long after Wind passed, and of course they are on an old computer hard drive somewhere ... :(

Yes, at one time I had them in my computer also so I could easily have them to share. But I can't find them now, so I'll have to measure mine up again.
