I have the opposite extreme...a 16" one, but if I go camping in Grizzly country, you bet it will be within a foot of me 24/7....!

Hope it shoots well. 24 inch barrel and a .454 should have a lot of power. Do you reload for it?

Yes I reload I bought my first freedom arms 454 in 1989 and factory ammo was 50 dollars per box (50) so there was a range master that helped me get started i don't know if I should thank him or scorn him for my gun disease! Lol

Sorry for the lousy pics btw I love the balance and feel of this gun now I was getting ready to get rid of it now i think I'll be very happy with shooting it I'm 6'-2" so the carbine was just too short. I have a side mounted peep sight I installed but I'll plug off the holes and run the tang style peep on it.

Looks great! Enjoy shooting.

When my gunsmith re-opens I'm having a tang sight put on my .44 mag chiappa 1892 clone

Well this didn't turn out so well the gunsmith used a 45 colt chambered barrel and lengthened it to 454 but the 45 colt sami spec is too large for the 454 cartridge so I was getting split cases and pressure issues so i had to return it he will have to set the barrel back and rechamber to spec I'll keep you posted.
