I just bought a calculator and it didn't have the "X" key.....

The last couple I bought had an asterisk instead of an X. Don't ask me why, but it works...

Well, it’s a common indicator for multiplication in most computer programs. Programmers needed something other than the letter x. So they chose the asterisk.
