New WW II Movie coming out in June....

Post by TraderVic »

Called "The Greyhound", is based on true events - about a destroyer, its' captain (Tom Hanks), and escorting & protecting a convoy from a wolf pack of U-Boats through the North Atlantic in 1942.

The trailer looks pretty good.

WOW, that looks AWESOME!!

I was wondering when we'd see a WWII Destroyer movie.

Hope the rest of it lives up to the trailer.

There will be several to come along to tell us how unrealistic and inaccurate it is.

I will go see it, because I grew up watching war movies and not caring if they were right or not, because I'm patriotic and love what
this country and our allies have done for this world!

That's true.

The ONLY way to get a 'true' picture of the events would be to invent time-travel and be there yourself.

ALL movies, ALL 'documentaries', ALL books, and ALL stories of events are just that - one person's version of what they think happened, and how THEY want to portray it.

Watch, listen, and read, and take from them all what you want. Never assume you know the 'real' story though.

Just enjoy.

Trailer looks great. But guaranteed there will be some sort of Social Justice revisionism to ruin it.

As a destroyerman myself, I'm sure I'll find it interesting. Hopefully, it'll be well done.

My only two connections to destroyers are that I worked on one in a shipyard after I got out of the service. USS Henderson.

And a uncle, career Navy, who participated in a little dust up in Leyte gulf. Griff will know that story.

My uncle rarely talked about his time aboard ship, and never about his time in the water.

I was on the USS Henderson DD 785, about one week. I was in the transient barracks in Subic Bay, waiting for "a ride" out to my destroyer on the Gun Line.
We were about 30 minutes from pulling out, when I went topside for something and there was my ship (Uss John R Craig DD885, coming in.
Scrambled to get my gear and get off, which I did. Small world sometimes.

Yep, we refitted her when she was being transferred to the reserves. Memory is foggy, but I think we were working on it when the whole asbestos thing hit the fan.
