New member of the family

Post by jdad »

2 months ago we had to put down our 11.5 year old due to a heart tumor. House has seemed real empty and my daily routine has been off.

"Sugar" chose us yesterday. She's a 10 week old Great Pyrenees/Lab mix. We got her from a rescue. Mom was pure Pyr, but only about 60 pounds.
Sugar took to her crate no problem. Not high energy.....yet. Family seems whole again.

That's just awesome. My life has been pretty empty that past two years without a dog or dogs in it. They bring so much to a home. Please keep the photo feed running as your pup grows!

I'm happy for you and Sugar. A good dog is a blessing.

As i type this, a tiny poodle/chihuahua sits beside me in my chair and a miniature fox terrier is perched on my shoulder like a pirate's parrot! :D

A great P puppy may become a large dog.
An 18 month old P dropped by this week, looking like he had a rough night; he wandered in to our place early just as I was setting garbage containers on the curb. We fed him and he settled in ASAP, making his bed under a lilac bush with damp cool ground underneath.

Took him to the vet and discovered he had been neutered and chipped. Daughter contacted chip info company and acquired the owners name. Turns out the owners live 2 miles east of us and left the dog in a fenced yard for the day. He had dug out and spent a miserable thunderstorm night outdoors; he wandered in to our place early just as I was setting garbage containers on the curb. He is back with owners and I hope he stays home, but I hear they tend to roam.

The rescue AND our vet said not to leave her unattended in the yard. She would find a way out and just cruise the neighborhood. I don't need her taking on one of the numerous coyotes looking for cats the neighbors stupidly let out to roam.

Some breeds just have a need to roam. As long as you are aware of that drive, and take steps to avoid problems, then it should be no trouble. Our Rat Terrier still is finding a way out, but he just runs around the block and comes to sit in the front yard. There is nothing below 7 foot with an opening in our yard. Somehow the Rattie is still finding a way. Sort of how the Kung Fu Panda got up to eat the cookies in the cartoon movie. We never see it happen, but there he is.
