Sad news about America's "Gun Culture"

Post by AJMD429 »

It turns out there are a lot of people who don't own any firearms, which of course we knew, but there are also a lot of 'gun owners' who don't own very many guns. Looks like most of the grunt-work is done by a mere 3% of us... :|

You can't trust any of that information. When someone asks how many guns someone owns for a survey, who's gonna be honest. When they ask at the doctors or wherever, I always lie and say I have none. So does my wife while there is a Smith 442 at her feet in her purse.

Old Win is onto it!

In this day and age, with all the negativity towards firearms, hunters, collectors, and shooters, I have my doubts as to the truthfulness of the respondents. I probably know three dozen shooters, hunter's, etc., and none would truthfully such questions about firearms ownership or their participation in the shooting sports.

In my case, I do not tell anyone that I have firearms or reload. It keeps the busy bodies and the miscreants at bay.

Also in what areas of the US where these surveys conducted? Location has an impact on the results.

I dont think I believe the data either (for the same reasons previously listed). But according to the article I'm well above average for a "super gun owner". Henceforth I would like to be known as a "SuperDuper Gun Owner".

I rarely answer surveys with any truthfulness. What may or may not be in my possession is no business of anyone who takes surveys. It can be fun to mess with the people who cold call you for a survey. There is usually no need to be rude, but silly or nonsensical answers can be amusing.

Guns? What guns? I've got two, my doctor refers to them as "biceps". Whatever those are?

This is my weapon.
This is my gun.
One is for fighting.

However, we must take those numbers with a grain of salt. The article goes on to claim that in 2015 there were “36,000 overall firearm deaths.” In reality, there were 15,883 murders.
The larger number is not incorrect. It includes suicides by firearms. The antis frequently quote the larger number as the "homicides" due to firearms. It seems a gun owner is more likely to kill himself than someone else.

On the other hand......the Gun Guy Radio Show was just on, and the attorney who is 'The Gun Guy', Guy Relford, says that there are over 800,000 concealed carry licensees in Indiana with a population of 6,600,000 - that's 1 in 8 overall, but only 75% of our population is over 18 and eligible, so it is almost 1 of 6 adults....!

Also.....I found out my PHONE likes guns; whenever I type 'gun' it autocorrect to 'fun'.... 8)

I need to educate it that the Redhawk is not a 'River' though.....

1) The Guardian.
2) Gun ownership statistics have an insanely large margin of error due to non-reporting.
3) I'm working on it, darnit!

I have found that Google (which powers your Android) tends to change firearm-related terms. On other auto-corrects, you can reeducate the phone. But on these terms, it appears to be deliberately stubborn...

Dude, you live in IN. Don't you remember the great "Straight Wall Cartridge"/"Pistol Caliber Carbine" Brush Guns of Death(!!!) Fight we had a few years back? And how many of us had to fight the Fudds with a vagindetta over their personal 72 Cal Rifle honey holes?

Meh. Fudds and rich wankers will.always make trouble.
