NOTE TO SELF:

Take the puppies out of the box, then put them back into the box BEFORE changing the paper!
Every time I I change the paper and return them they pee on the fresh paper!

Ah such fun! Mom sitting outside the box as I was adjusting collars which got all of them screaming & howling so I called my niece and they left her a voicemail!! HeHe- that's what are uncles for!

Boy oh boy can these puppies make a racket! Whimpers & screeching, howls and growls to the occasional bark- it great!
Think I'm going to have to start weaning soon, Win can't keep up with their appetites.

Of course once they start on food the whole puppy breath starts to go away.

Lots of fun. The last time we whelped a bitch I'd get "sawdust" from the butcher, cook it up and add it to her regular feed. The bone/marrow/sinew/whatever stuff that accumulates in the butcher's bandsaw made a great supplement for her. She never got that gaunt look that many do when their pups reach a certain stage. We made sure she also had a way to get away from the hoodlums to give her teats a rest. Watching your daily pics ALMOST makes me want to give it another try. Then I smack myself up side the head and say "Thank God for those who do go through it."

Paul, that idea of adding "sawdust" from the butcher makes a whole lot of sense. Thanks for sharing it.

The pure joy of just being alive that a puppy shows is a real gift. The noises are just the tests for interaction with the world. Everyone should be able to experience it at least once.

I had to leave kinda early this morning and didn't get a chance to take any pics.

Yesterday I started them on puppy cereal. What a messy pack of eaters! I think they had more on their paws then in their bellies!

Got home in time to feed Winnie her lunch, more cereal for the pups and FORGOT to take some pics! They are starting to use their noses more, within seconds of the puppy bowl hitting the box they are in it, on it, over it and through it!

I'll try to get some messy faces posted tonight!

We had a big adventure tonight! I turned them loose in the kitchen so they could explore some. About 15 minutes of running around we have 6 exhausted puppies.
They had a 2 course dinner, cereal and mothers milk.

So my day yesterday went south...
Had a little drill press / abrasive disk issue that resulted in 4 stitches in my left thumb. Not serious, kind of painful when I move it.
If I had had to report for jury duty I wouldn't have hurt myself. Anyhow, back to puppies!

All are fat & happy, Win just fed them. I'll feed more cereal/ puppy food soon. They go from little Tasmania Devils to sound asleep in about a minute after filling their bellies now.

Seeing puppies do an imitation of the tasmanian devil from the bugs bunny cartoons is funny as can be. Just a part of the growing up that they do. I bet Win is happy when they are sleeping.

Neighbor kids stopped by last night for a 'puppy fix'. So I take them out of the box so the kids can really get them tuckered out. Of course this means chasing around to clean up the puddles. So I pulled off a bunch of paper towels and told the kids to clean up after the puppies. I then proceeded to give the cardboard towel roll to the pups, one grabbed an end and carried it off, that's a great start!
image.jpeg
Now that they are out of the box more big sister, Claro is slowly adjusting to them. Still gets a bit bent outta shape if they get too close. Gives a low growl as she backs away then goes and hides on the couch.

4 weeks old last night, Hard to believe it's been a month!
They have grown so much that they won't stay on postal scale I use to weigh puppies. I'm guessing they are all 5&1/2 to 6 lbs each.

The boy pulled this creepy Halloween decorations way from the wall that my sister left here. Winnie kept growling at it so I took it apart! He was just seconds away from tipping it over on to Winnie and the pups.

I was out at the club all day yesterday, sitting in second place, finish the match today... I didn't get any fresh pictures yet.
Had a minor panic moment last night, had the puppies out for a romp in the kitchen when big sister Claro decided she would play with one of the puppies and swatted the poor thing in the shoulder- scared the poop outta the puppy and caused her to start limping! I had to pick them all up and put them back in the box so I could give the pup a once over. No broken bones thankfully. About an hour later pup was back to normal-WHEW!

Gunny,

Get your tare weight ( you by yourself on scale ); get your loaded weight ( you and pup on scale). Subtract you tare from your loaded weight = pups weight

Might be more work than you want to do !

Bronco, yeah I could do that and have done so in the past, but they are eating very well, happy and playful so there is no real reason to keep weighing them daily. They are always hungry!!
Every time I look at them I shake my head in wonder that they have grown so much so fast.
Thanks!

Had an early day yesterday so the pups got to go outside a couple times. They figured out the ramp in nothing flat. Now 6 puppies bum rushing up a 24" wide ramp you would think they have plenty of room but they don't! From edge of deck to ground is about 16", good thing puppies bounce! They just get right back up and try again.

My neighbor buried his father yesterday. Pauls family was in & out all afternoon, I was happy to show off the puppies and I think everyone petting and cuddling pups helped with their loss.

These guys are getting smarter by the minute! They have started to entertain themselves by shredding the paper in put in the box to absorb the pee. Past 2 mornings have been like the aftermath of a ticker tape parade!

Each day they play longer and longer. When I got home yesterday I took them outside for a romp, 15 minutes later and most were still full of P&V! Then some friends stopped for a visit and another 30 minutes of shoelace chasing, toy carrying and wrestling they finally started to crash.
So much fun!
