Tulsa?

Post by Thunder50 »

Just wondering if anyone is going to the big Tulsa show next month? Just so happens that business takes me down there and I might get a chance to go.

I'm planning on it.

Update; had a change of plans. The missus was in the hospital for 20 days with pancreatitus. Been out now for a couple of weeks, but I hate to be gone for several days. That is some nasty stuff. The pancreas gets inflamed and swells up and it just takes a long time for it to heal itself. It makes you awful weak.
Maybe next time. :(

April 11 and 12.

Have tentative plans to be there with some friends....if life doesn't get in the way.

That's an incredible show, I can't believe it is nearly 12 months since I caught up with you Vance & Charles over there. Shows back here in oz are are big let down after Tulsa. Still in awe of the Marlin 1891 & Savage 1899 I picked up there.

Well, if you can't make it in April, Pete, they have it in November every year, too. :D
I have no business going. Got about everything I need. But that would take the buying and selling pressure off of me where I could just look. Maybe drool over the Gatling guns :) Now THAT would be a heck of a nice retirement purchase (now that I have time to load enough ammo to shoot it)

That sounds like a scheduling faux pas on someone's part! I haven't attended an NRA show since it was in Dallas a long time ago. I'll choose Tulsa though. More stuff to buy.

I am definitely going. I am on the waiting list for cancellation tables. With all the old guys there is bound to be a few cancellations due to health or other life changing situations. When and if I get a table I'll post the location here so you can come by and visit. I'm sure I'll be on the lower level and in the 6' tables which cost just the same as the 8s. Should have kept the ones I had years ago but they're so expensive.

If you need a scooter, they have them to rent at the show. $100 per day I think and well worth it if you can't walk 10 or 15 miles per day. I'll bring my own.

Yes, would love to meet you. I always have big plans to get up there, then something happens. I'll probably come up early Sat and spend all day, then decide if I want to stay the night and look some more Sunday.
I did accidentally find a heck of a deal on a Browning 1895 in .30-40 last year. Might stumble across another bargain....you never know.

Got to meet Peter Richards and the Oz gang last year, too. Great visit.

I plan on being there. Never been to this show before and I'm looking forward to it. Hope to find some good deals.

If you've never been there, you're in for a great time. Just wear the best shoes you have, and a notepad for going back to find a table you want to look at again. First rule IMHO, is if you find the gun you want and its priced right, BUY IT. It won't be there when you go back. Lot of guys there with DEEP pockets.

Probably more cash in that venue this weekend than in all the casino's in Tulsa.
I was amazed at how many piles of cash I saw being counted out.

Luckily I found some of those guys today :D I cleaned out some "extras" from my safe and took them to the show. Sold them all, then had to fight those impulses that are brought on my having cash in my pocket in a gun show.....I kept telling myself...the safe door won't close....the safe door won't close....

Place was packed! I got claustrophobic after about an hour. It got better when I got on the rows away from the entrance. I only got run over by electric scooters twice.

Lots of levers. Table after table of Winchesters and Marlins (and way too many modern Henry's to suit me) I saw some decent prices on a few Ubertis and Navy Arms, but I already have enough of those (if that's possible)
I almost bought a 1862 C.S. Richmond made by Armi Sport-Chiappa. Told myself I'd go make an offer on it tomorrow, but came on home instead.

.22 LR was still scarce and overpriced, but I'm encouraged by the amount of reloading components showing up. Having the NRA convention the same weekend didn't seem to hurt attendance at all.

I went to the show with my neighbor Bob Saturday a.m. He bought a small place bordering my north fence line about a year ago. I planned to sell two leverguns and a S&W .44 magnum, nickle, model 29-2 in presentation case. Got it done and came home with a smile and an expected amount of folding money. Tulsa show has always amazed me. If you're looking for anything gun or gun/reloading related and don't find it, either you are too old/slow to get around the entire show (like me) or you've only scheduled your time there for one of the two days it's open! All here should go at least one time before you leave this mortal coil. I spent ($) an all time record low for me, only 40 bucks this trip.

Bob wants to start reloading, and has asked my help in getting set up. Wants to load for .300 Win Mag, .223, .44 mag, .45 acp and 30-30. About the only thing he didn't find at Tulsa were new dies (going to lend him a spare press until he gets one). Supplies -powder, primers, bullets- were in abundance and he came back home all set for those calibers. Have dies, except the Win mag, I can lend him until he gets his bought. Unless I've just become numbed to the "New Normal" prices, I thought the cost of stuff was reasonable. Maybe it was the abundance of reloading supplies that lulled me into thinking the prices were OK.

For those who've never been, y'all do yourself a favor and schedule a trip there, either the Fall or Spring show. 11 acres under roof, 7,000 tables... can't beat it! Wear comfortable shoes.

Yea, it does get pretty congested in there. but at least the aisles are wide enough that you can slither by. It does make it hard to look at the tables, though. I really wish I could have gone. Maybe in the fall. :|
vancelw, I'm glad you sold a bunch of stuff......you're right, it's really hard to go to Tulsa with some extra money and not get a toy.
