Prayer request....a few actually.....UPDATE on my eye

Post by firefuzz »

Fellas I need a few prayer request.

The first is for my daughter. She's due with her first in February and is starting to have some complications. She's already lost one child and she's getting scared for this one. All my baby girl ever wanted to be is a momma, and she'd be a good one. Please lift her up.

The second is for my grandson Anthony. He's four years old and can't/won't talk, at least not to the degree even a two-year old can. The docs say they can't find anything wrong with him, he just doesn't want to talk. He's my 'lil bud and I sure would like to hear what he's thinking.

The third is for me. I go back in on Jan 7th to have my right, dominant, eye looked at. The "stroke" I had in it has blurred my vision again to the point I can't read with it or see the front sight on a gun. I had to give up my health insurance a year ago, thanks to it doubling in price due to Obummercare and I haven't been able to afford to have it treated, it cost about $3,500 to walk in the door every time. Got new insurance thru the wife's job and hopefully they'll cover it and it's still treatable.

If you don't have time for three the first two are the priorities, I can still function the way things are now and even if it gets worse.

Thanks,

Rob

Dear Rob.
Sincere best wishes Sir.
Your daughter is going to do well I am sure. My wife had a tough pregnancy but it turned out ok.

The little guy just needs time, it will probably happen over night!

You will be in our prayers too bro.

Praying for you and your family.

As far as the talking goes - every child is different, and while doctors pull out their charts and act alarmed any time a child's development does not line up right where they think it should, not all children advance in the same ways.

All of my children were very different in how they started speaking. My lodes boy started saying words very young, but he just practiced a word for a few days until he was confident he had it right, and then went on to another. He could not be induced to ever say the word again. He learned word after word but never spoke, even when other kids his age were stringing two or three word sentences together, he just kept studying words.

One day we got out of the car in the rain and the rain was falling down through a small spruce tree. He was very excited and wanted to stay out in the rain to watch it. He said, "The rain in the tree! The rain in the tree!" and after that, he spoke all the time in sentences. Paragraphs, actually.

His brother cared little for how the language worked, he just wanted to get stuff said.

My girls both spoke early and often, with proper grammar and an emphasis on expressing feelings and defining relationships. My younger daughter talks without pause and is very expressive - if she falls and skins her knee, it will be a ten minute dissertation on everything that led up the the fall, the exact blow-by-blow details of the fall, how she felt in the aftermath, everyone else's reaction, and on and on. And on.

My youngest boy did not speak. He communicated by facial expressions. Everyone started to panic, more as he got older. He was off the top of the developmental charts in some areas, completely off the bottom of the charts on speech. He did not even say single words. He did not speak.

Then one day he started speaking and he has not stopped since. He looks for the cause and meaning of everything, so he is always expounding on events with detailed and complex explanations about WHY something happened. Coupled with the intense facial expressions he still uses, it is pretty comical.

As children learn, certain things are more important to one than to another. To some children, speaking is just not at the top of their lists. Reading to them can help, and talking to them helps - talking normally and explaining things as if they are adults, not baby talk or dumbing things down.

A good speech therapist can often tell if there is any actual issue, or if the child just chooses not to speak yet, or hasn't bothered with it.

Thanks guys.

Anthony's had his hearing tested several times, been tested for autism, and several other types of test. All the doctors we've had him to say there's nothing physically wrong with him, he just doesn't want to talk, but as time continues to pass the worries mount. He sees a speech therapist twice a week. My son and his estranged wife, for now anyway, have never enjoyed a good relationship, a lot of fighting and yelling, and neither of them can put aside their own pettiness in front of the children. I wondering how much of a cause this is with Anthony's not talking.

Anyway, I'm hoping he'll improve, Grandpa's greedy and wants to talk to his 'lil bud.

Thanks again,

Rob

Probably a lot. Speech is definitely a symptom of these things in young children, especially boys. Mine had speech issues when I deployed, and later any time I went out on a job.
More prayers for his situation.

Edit: I know a young boy who was in a bad family situation. He was four and did not talk. He was afraid of women. He would hug me and play with me, but he did not want any woman anywhere near him. When he was removed from the situation, he began talking within a few weeks.

Re: Prayer request....a few actually.....UPDATE on my eye

Post by firefuzz »

I went to my retinal specialist on Wednesday to hopefully re-start treatment on my vision problem. Turned out to be a bad news, good news, more bad news, more good news, even more bad news and then some great news type of visit.

Firstly, in the year it's gone without treatment the condition has gotten much worse, worse than it was when I started treatment. I already suspected that due to my vision loss. The good news is that's it's still treatable. It'll probably be a long road, but the doctor, who I really like and trust, still believes it can be brought back to near what I had.

Second bad news....during this period of non-treatment another condition has developed. The seeping blood vessel has deposited cholesterol/fatty deposits on the retina of my eye. Unless my body re-absorbs them these are there to stay and will cause some vision loss. The good news here is that is will be slight and although I won't return to 20/20 vision it should be close.

Third bad news....the medicine for treating this problem is still very expensive, about $2,200 a pop. The good news it that a third medicine has been approved for treating this problem, and although it's just as expensive, the company that manufactures it has a very aggressive patient assistance program that's figured on the patient's annual household income. This will reduce the overall cost of the treatment considerably and allow me to not go deeply into debt to receive the treatments.

All in all I'd say it was a pretty good news kind of day. Depending on how well/quickly the medicine reduces the swelling of the seeping blood vessel(s) I'm looking at 12-24 months of injections into my eye (BTW, that is NOT something you want to add to your bucket list), and multiple laser sessions before it ends. I am thankful and optimistic.

However, another small problem has arisen from this visit. My sweet wife, Kelly, has gotten it into her head that marrying her and supporting her two adult children caused me to neglect myself and this problem, and is suffering some pretty severe guilt feelings about it. Although there may be a certain amount of truth to this, I knowingly made the decision and don't regret it for one second. I'd rather lose the vision in the eye than not have her and I've told her that several times, but she's still pretty down in the dumps about it. I know my list is getting pretty long, but if you could spare a prayer for her it would be appreciated.

My daughter's still holding firm, no additional problems or issues and Anthony seems to enjoy his speech therapy so things are looking good on both those fronts.

I am thankful for your prayers and would ask you to please continue to remember my family and me in your future conversations with the Big Guy. I firmly believe they help.

Rob,

If your eye problem is Age related Macular Degeneration, you might want to check this out: http://www.google.com/url?q=http%3A%2F% ... TC_Dh8KQuA

I had to get injections into both eyes, first the left and later the right and the Avastin brought my vision back to nearly 100%.

The Avastin is about $2000 cheaper per treatment than the alternative.
It took a little more than a year of treatments for each eye, at 6 week intervals to fix me up.

Good Luck, Jack

jhrosier, my problem is not macular degeneration, I have a blood vessel leaking in my retina, it would be the same as a stroke in any other part of the brain. My doc used the Avastin for about 9 months, I responded to it, but not to a good enough degree for him to laser the leak shut, so he switched to the Lucentis. I responded really well to that and had just had my first laser treatment when my insurance crapped out.

I can't recall the name of the new drug, but it's supposed to be as good as the Lucentis and will cost me much less thanks to the manufacture's patient assistance program.

Thanks,

Rob
