Talk about leverguns......WOW!

Post by OldWin »

Well I'm sick! Just got home from the open house weekend at James D. Julia's auction house. It was the viewing prior to his spring firearms auction. I'm surprised they let a bum like me in the door. I didn't take any pics as I figured they'd throw me out.
Just incredible stuff. From wheel locks to machine guns. He had a gold plated and ivory stocked 73 SRC., iron frame Henry's, Custer fight SAA's, deluxe 86's that looked unfired. It went on and on. I'm just in a daze. It's hard to believe that stuff like that is in Maine, even if just to be auctioned.

Apparently, I have only junk.

At some point we have to admit these things to ourselves.

My name's Fred. I only have junk.

My name is Brian, and I am addicted to inexpensive firearms in the less than $1,000 range, and I really find it hard to control myself if the price is below $500.

The firearms may currently be in Maine for the Julia Spring auction, but folks from every & any where send their guns to them, expressly to get top dollar - since Julia usually has well-attended auctions, patronized by well-heeled folks, who also may fly or phone in (from anywhere) to bid on whatever floats their boat.

Julia's is one of the best places (there are 3-4 others) in the world to place one's rare and/or premium firearm(s) for auction.

My name is Earl and I don't own any junk (well, maybe a couple are rather close...). I do, however, have a number of firearms which exhibit considerable "character".

Pete,
Yeah that's kinda what I was saying. Probably not three out of those hundreds of guns are from or will stay in Maine. I can't remember the last old Winchester I bought. There is no money here so all the good stuff leaves the state. It doesn't get sold here cause they can get twice as much somewhere else.

They set up at the Antique Winchester show I've attended. I'm acquainted with a guy that works for them. I saw him with a rifle in his hand at the show, walking around, I said "what do you have?" He held it up to see, it was a factory engraved Henry. A real one, not the ones made recently. I'm sure its worth more than my house.

Wow. It sure was pretty!

Yeah there were several there today. Just incredible stuff. It was fun to go look at. There was a beautifully engraved 1886 that looked unfired.
