anodized/odd/ugly finishes - does anyone remember
who made 22 rifles back in the 50s/60s that had anodized finishes? some friends [ two brothers whom i knew from civil air patrol and ham radio activities ] had these 22s, i beleive semi autos but could have been other actions, that were wood stocked but had receivers [ probably alloy] and barrels [ likely an alloy shroud with steel liner] that had funky space age colored finishes. i remember specifically a green one, and a blue one, and i think there was even a pinkish one. their dad was a pilot and he liked these and was collecting examples of them but we all got the shoot them and hunt squirrels etc with them
might have been high standard or possibly H&R....... or maybe i am losing it entirely.

Marlin did for one. Their semi auto was that way. I have had a couple of them.
Today`s finishes are hands down tougher and easier to repair than they used to be.

I dimly recall something like that, possibly High Standard revolvers maybe?
Re: anodized/odd/ugly finishes - does anyone remember
Harold,
I looked through a dozen Gun Digests from 1955 to 1975 and I saw nothing in the descriptions that said anything about color. I focused mostly on Marlin and High Standard.
My brain is operating on about 2 percent right now. I'll play around tomorrow and see if anything comes up.
I'm around guns all the time and I just don't recall seeing anything like that. ------sixgun

Those were Remingtons. I had one in the early eighties that had a tan colored finish, but can't recall what it was named. I think it had an anodized aluminum barrel with a steel liner, but its been so long ago I really don't remember!
edit: just did a Google search- it was a Remington Model 572 lightweight in Buckskin Tan. Also came in Crow Wing Black and Teal Wing Blue. They were made from 1957-1962.

And that's the one I'm looking for. I've got several 66's and a couple 77's and I've never even see (except photos) a 10, 11 or 12.hfcable wrote:they probably were. i liked those nylon guns, too. only one i have or ever had is the nylon 76 lever action.mark1108 wrote:Didn't those come along the time of the Remington nylon 66???

Re: anodized/odd/ugly finishes - does anyone remember
i guess my friends were smart to collect these; here is an example of the 'green one' which was actually teal colored:

Re: anodized/odd/ugly finishes - does anyone remember
thanks Sixgun! that is the one.
you guys are amazing. i dont know why i was thinking about these, except that i am in a nostalgia phase of old age.
of course, that is what most of my collecting and shooting is partly about.
