New Ruger Single Six 22/22mag

Post by Bigahh »

Uncle Sam is buying me one of these real soon. In fact he already sent me the money for one, but I just cant decide on what barrel length. I am leaning toward 5 1/2, but the 4 1/2 looks handier. As soon as I can make up my mind I will order one ! My wife thinks im Crazy !

Get a 6.5" inch barrel, shoot it awhile and send it off to a good 'smith and have barrel set to 5-5.5" with mininum cylinder gap clearance. I like my 6.5 but it is a little heavy. Sure shoots good tho.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

This is what I was looking for ! I think Joe Miller shoots a 5 1/2 and loves it. Maybe he will chime in yet. Never heard much talk about the 4 1/2. I do know I want the adjustable sights, not fixed.

I had a 6 1/2" RSS stainless. My brother and I traded, mine for his short barrel. I prefer the Shorty.
BTW; He later traded the 6 1/2" for a shorty.

The 22 mag cylinder resides in my piece, and always has a full cylinder of Winchester Dyna-point 40 gr. leads which are very accurate in the RSS mag.

Get the Shorty, you will not go wrong.

I love the short Rugers. If the Single Tens are issue-less, I might have to get one to go with the Single Six....Nah, the SS is perfect. A Bearcat, perhaps 8)

I have had all the lengths of single six and I like the 6.5" inch the best in the 22 Mag/LR.

You old guys need the longer barrel so you're closer to the target....

Shorty if your eyes can handle it IMO. The longer barrels, especially past 5.5 get to feeling pretty barrel heavy. These are no lightweights to begin with regardless of barrel what with the little holes.

Dynapoints chrono at 1240fps out of the 6.5" barrel, and dont seem much louder than a cylinder full of hi=vel 22LR

I'd love to have a Bowen Perfected Bearcat. At $750, prolly won't happen. I had a Single 6 while in college but it was stolen. Liked it. I could accept a Single 10 , but if I could find a $75 Single 6 like this one, I'd be on it like a duck on a June bug.

Super gun there and what is the holster???

By the way, my two holsters are a great fit for the New Vaquero.

OS, The holster is one I made up from scratch.
One try on the pattern and then the one in the pic.
No dye on that one, just Extra virgin olive oil and three days out in the direct sun. I wish I could do that more but it rains 9 months out of the year here. :x

OH! I forgot the new grips I made for it. :D

You can't go wrong with any length of a Single six.

In the Single-Six, I think the 5.5" barrel is perfect.
